So I am going to do if the draft falls perfectly, draft falls ok, and the draft falls horribly and these are my guesses of who they draft not who I would draft personally. I am trying to predict who the Steelers take.
Perfect.
#49- Jonathan Taylor RB Wisconsin
Taylor is typically ranked in the top 45 by draftniks and Steelers have shown interest, Also, Rooney has made it clear the team is supposed to fix their running game this year. Taylor is a workhorse but also an underclassman who tested very well at the combine having one of the best SPARQ scores in this draft.
#102- Raekwon Davis DL Alabama
Davis is a physically imposing lineman who had his best years under our current DL Coach Dunbar. Steelers have drafted two Alabama defensive linemen since hiring on Dunbar. Having that familiarity with Davis in a year where visits have been all but nonexistent makes this a win for the Steelers. Wormley is on a one year deal, Heyward is a FA in 2021 and will be 32 for the 2021 season. This gives the Steelers a year to develop and put Davis into the rotation as I feel the Steelers can't resign both Heyward and Wormley.
#124- John Simpson OG Clemson
Steelers met with Simpson who is a load at OG. He is definetly a phone booth kind of lineman but he does a good job in pass pro and when is allowed to road grade he sets up nice lanes for his back. IMO he would have an outside chance of starting this year and take Fosters place.
#135- Evan Weaver ILB Cal
Weaver is a tackling machine, high motor guys who has a very good football IQ. Williams can't play forever and Weaver can take Dirty Reds spot while he develops.
#198- Tanner Muse S/LB Clemson
Muse would probably compete to replace Mark Barron on passing downs but his ability to backup at safety to would make him have added value and hopefully he could play special teams giving him even more value on the roster and replace Chick there.
#232- Colton McKivitz OT West Virginia
Steelers have one OT (Chuks) under contract for the 2021 season. I don't feel they will let them all walk but even if they can resign two that still leaves a hole for a swing tackle backup.
Here's my "OK" draft falls to Steelers.
#49- Lloyd Cushenberry III OG LSU
Interior lineman who can play OG or OC. Can backup both guard and center this year and take over for Pouncey when he retires.
#102- Darrynton Evans RB Appalacian State
Evans is probably more of a complimentary back with homerun ability to take some pressure off of Conner. Conner has been injury prone so having a guy take 20% of the snaps to keep Conner healthy along with Snell for short yardage should help improve the 2020 running attack.
#124- Amik Robertson CB Lousiana Tech
Nickel back that plays larger than his stature. Hilton is in a contract year and wants to get paid. Robertson is a clone of Hilton and would give them depth and security if they could not get a deal worked out with Hilton
#135- Brandon Jones S Texas
Cognitive safety who can play multiple positions giving much needed depth in the secondary. Was not able to test due to injury but game tape shows more than enough speed.
#198- Quez Watkins WR Southern Mississippi
Steelers have not had any contact that has leaked out of Watkins but a 4.35 forty receiver has to be on their radar. Watkins is a home run hitter and has some punt and kick return ability.
#232- Khaleke Hudson S/LB Michigan
Passing LB to give added depth to ILB. Hudson reminds me of a poor mans Bush and should be able to back him up and replace dirty red on special teams
Draft falls horrible for the Steelers.
#49- Cam Akers RB FSU
Akers has a bit of a Miles Sanders feel to me. Has all the tools to be a 3-down back, young underclassman, offensive line didn't do him any favors.
#102- Van Jefferson WR Florida
I personally am not very high on Jefferson. He is a high floor low ceiling player and I feel maxes out at a #2 possession receiver. Nothing wrong with that but I feel we don't need a possession receiver who offers nothing in the way of special teams value. But he met with the Steelers and this seems to be his value with drankniks.
#124- Albert Okwuegbunam TE Missouri
To get that dirty feeling of Jefferson off I get a player I like the only problem is he will be buried on the depth chart this year. He will end up 3rd/4th TE on the roster and might not even dress on Sunday as McDonald and Ebron get the nod each week and he will have to show more in terms of offense understanding and blocking ability over Gentry who has a year under his belt. Nonetheless I feel Al would be a great pick for the future.
#135- Michael Onwenu OG Michigan
Steelers were on their way to Michigan pro day when the event was canceled due to covid-19. Onwenu has all the physical tools to be a starting OG in the NFL but will need a season to develop.
#198- Shaun Bradley LB Temple
Bradley fits in the mold of Bush as a speedy ILB who has coverage ability. Should replace red on special teams and ad depth at ILB.
#232- AJ Green CB Oklahoma State
Young CB with some upside potential. Very raw and will need a season to develop but Haden and Sutton are coming up on free agency,
Pretty hard to guess with such limited visits but this way I have more options with each pick.
Perfect.
