ESPN: nfl worried about image

The ONLY reason the league is concerned now is because an owner is making comments about the league. Where was the leagues concern about it's integrity after they destroyed all of the evidence from spygate? Where was the concern after their repeated rule changes as to what constitutes a catch when 12 year old kids playing backyard football know what a catch is without much controversy. If Rooney had a pair to come out and question the league about its integrity after the Jesse James catch last year, I am sure the league would have been a little more concerned about integrity. If the league was concerned about it's integrity, it would have come out with a much better plan for dealing with the National Anthem...but since owners did not raise a stink, it was business as usual. Owners need to realize that they are in the drivers seat and also realize that while the money has been good, if Goodell remains in charge, the ship could start heading the other way.

NFL has been going backwards for years , throw in players off field action and now refs on spot light they need to be concerned of the image. When you listen to the fan talk if it was not for the fantasy leagues popularity, the image would be worse.

Goodell is in his reactionary phase with the non-DPI call right now. I'm not sympathetic at all for the Saints given some of the calls against us over the years, but if is the breaking point to make some positive changes with the officials, I'll be satisfied.

You know while the saints are feeling all slighted and **** they may want to look at the pi on Joe Haden when the Steelers played them. ******* garbage. Just like that chargers **** show false start and massive block in the back. Both SCORING plays.

Of course I'm still a mother ****** who's pissed about that little tape destroying fiasco Goodell did to save ******* NFL face .

8 superbowls in 17 years my ***.

Pride, remember the owner in question became one after Tom Bensen, her spouse, passed in March 2018. She was heir to the club so doesn’t have the “league loyalty” factor. That’s why she’s daring Goodell.

As for Art2 not doing anything about James catch, he and his coach who is on the competition committee got the catch rule changed. He knows as does everyone else that nothing would be changed after the fact, and that the issue would be addressed in the off season. Just like the officials this year.

The owners (especially Rooney) should be ashamed of how they let the league office off the hook after spygate. I saw several interviews during that time and the Rooneys basically said that there wasn't much to it and it didn't help the pats****. They covered for the NFL and allowed Godell to destroy all the evidence. It was a travesty what happened to the Rams during that SB and what has happened to all the teams the pats**** screwed out of wins because of their cheating.

I'm pretty sure if the tapes had been released to the public, nfl football would be a WAY different entity than it is today. The OWNERS knew they had to squelch it to maintain continue profit. Pretty simple as in 2017 i think each owner put 200+ million in PURE PROFIT into each ones pocket. I doubt that happens had the truth been put out.

Then maybe they need to have full time refs who are well-trained, have more accountability for refs and the leaders of the ref organization, and emphasize consistency across games and across ref crews

NFL officiating has been a mess for damn near a decade since they started making examples out of guys for personal fouls. They need to fix it. Officiating is the only thing right now that can turn off actual fans of the game. It’s the only blemish on an otherwise amazing on-field product (much improved over last year, I believe)

And Cowher still won't say jack **** about it because he doesn't want to lose his sweet TV gig.

The league has started going back since spygate.
The constants rule changes under the new cba though has really neutered the game.

I disagree. Certainly the league would have taken a temporary hit, but we could sit around and post about how the nfl has taken great steps to make sure they had integrity, and that the fans agree. Until they reverse the cheating trophies, which will be must more costly to them at this point, they will have this shadow over the league. I doubt their courage to be so upright.

Rooney knows 10X more about it than Cowher. Cowher isn't at the owners meetings nor at the commish's office. Rooney probably told him there was nothing to it and to drop it.

DeflateGate was purportedly the “payback” from the owners for the Goodell sweeping of Spygate. Knowing Goodell was tight with Kraft, the old Guard owners basically forced Roger to go all in with the investigation. However, no matter how “upset” Kraft got initially, remember that he relented and apologized for “whatever happened”. He backed off because Goodell was the League office member to push to see if the official’s PSI instruments were calibrated properly, which was the ONLY evidence presented to prove a reasonable doubt. There also buzz as to why the two Patriot ball boys weren’t allowed to be interviewed after Kraft said they were no longer part of the organization, yet the following season they were...still are too. Goodell, didn’t notify the investigation team to proceed with contacting them anyway because they were counsel represented (by the Kraft Group).

At the time the OWNERS did what they thought would keep the prifit rolling in, then they got caught up in lies trying to cover lies (the "rog" and his power no-nonsense punishments cyndrone" right??). Combine all that and they found themselves in a catch 22 situation, constructed of their own greed / power struggle of CBA etc.. NOW they can't come clean and again you are right in that I'f they'd come clean to begin with I'd think this would have just blown over but Kr*ft had other ideas and being the biggest (owner) single contributed (TV/cable) he didn't want the embarrassment and the "rog" being his friend obliged his whim. A ******* 2-cent mess turns into a billion dollar cover up.

And we all barf, and walk away. The nfl is garbage

I still laugh at all you schmucks who continue to call out ‘ol Roger for destroying the NFL as we know it. Godell works FOR THE OWNERS, he doesn’t do jack ****, without the permission from the owners. The OWNERS approve every action taken.

It SHOULD be a way different entity than it is today. Rog, the Pats, and ***** owners have destroyed it.

Goodell only cares about ratings and what the owners think. All that is left is for the super bowl to be soured by the officials.

I have never met a fan who likes the Goodell. Not one.

Is the NFL fixed? Honestly I don't know why but the team behind tends to get the calls to make the games closer and keep there viewers glued to the screen.

Kinda like NASCAR when someone gets a big lead and they throw a caution flag for some mysterious "debris on the track". Like I said elsewhere, the NFL is getting more like NASCAR.

EXCEPT in the case of one very SPECIAL team, the CHEATRIOTS. The manipulation starts fast at the beginning of the game to advance a nice lead using "KEY" penal;ties at the correct "football moment" to extend drives. The roughing the passer recently is a great example. Then as the game progresses the officiating does the "make up " penalties favoring the opponent, except those penalties seem to be durring NON-FOOTBALL critical times. This MO happens way to often to just be "COINCIDENTAL" but hey, I'm a schmuck for thinking this way....................................... **** the CHEATRIOTS with the O'l RED HOT POKER !!!
