Edmunds film break down.

^^ Not too impressive here, gets blocked too easily, gave up a mid to long pass in coverage. Just one game though.

^^ A much better video, his highlights.

Pros. I like Edmunds tackling ability when he makes contact. When he sees a play, and he's unblocked he uses his speed to get there quickly. An athlete for sure. The interception moving backward, then jumping and high pointing the ball was something. Uses his hands well enough to break up passes. Should be very good on special teams. Character off the field is very good. Edmunds should be a good in the box safety. If you have a top NT/DT, a player like this could shine at ILB. Or he will shine on 2nd and long or 3rd down as a nickel / dime linebacker.

Con's. Doesn't get off blocks easily. A tad slow to react, I think, but his speed makes up for that. He played Linebacker in 2016 and Safety in 2017.

I think he's a hybrid of both; he might be better off at ILB. All he would need to do is add about 10 pounds to play ILB. At a safety or in coverage, I have some doubts at the NFL level to cover quicker players. Reports say he's easily fooled, but we won't see that on a high light film. He did injure his shoulder last season. Looked a bit more like a straight line speedy player who can jump than a player who's going to be able to turn quickly with speed. He did not perform his cone or shuttle at the combine, so I think he was hiding something. Did he do any cone or shuttle drills on his pro day? If not, why?

Mayock did not list him in is top 100! Gil Brandt listed him at #87 overall. That means Mayock sees him not being taken in round 1-3, and Brandt sees Terrell Edmunds selected in the 2nd half of round three. If any X NFL GM, Player or Coach who does mock draft had Terrell Edmunds in round one, I'd like to read it.

What the Steelers saw to make him their first-round pick, I'd like to know..

Summary: I liked Terrell Edmunds in round two or three. He can do some of the things Shazier did, and perhaps even match up with TEs in coverage. Not sure if he's instinctive or quick enough to play anything but Strong Safety, and I have some doubts there. I think WR's will burn him on routes. However, if he's in the play that does not have good timing on the pass or zip, his physicality length, and ball skills can produce some turnovers.

Would I have taken Reid over him? Yes.

One knock on him I saw was his tackling. I sure hope that is wrong. We don't need another iffy tackler.

How big is his ******* head, coach? Of all guys who should shut the **** up about the Safety position.

Apparently a lot more than Mayock, Brandt. Scouts have their own draft boards and even do their own mocks, plus they do a lot more research on players and how they fit into a teams system. I'm not saying they're always right, but I trust them more than ESPN mocks. Otherwise a team wouldn't need to staff it's own scouts, they could just depend on what Mayock, Brandt and Kiper say.

Narrative, narrative, narrative......it won't matter what Edmunds does now, he's in coach's dog house because we picked him higher then where coach wanted him. Therefore, all facts will now be twisted and stretched to fit the massive reach narrative for the rest of Edmunds' career.

What was the circumference of his skull? I'm sure that's in your scouting report somewhere I probably just missed it

I think there was better value available, but I come back to not for what they really need which is third down athletic coverage that can take on the run. This is a pick for now that could be a solid every down starter. Probably not a star. They are playing for now. I think you will see substantially better third down get off the field short area coverage with this kid.

Big problem he does not tackle very well, we already have Burns who can't or won't step up and make a hit. This defense gives up way to many third and long because of the tackling skills and we add another???????

his tackling is just fine

Although I think the team took Edmunds to replace Golden/Gay (and he is immediately better than either in the dime), I liken him to Deion Jones, a HIGHLY productive MLB for Atlanta. He is 3/10ths of an inch shorter and 3 pounds lighter BUT ran, jumped and outperformed Jones' combine numbers. He is almost identical to Jones except Edmunds has longer arms and wingspan than almost all ILBs and huge hands at 10.5".
When he played LB his sophomore year, he had over 100 tackles and 4 Ints. IMO, he plays much better close to the line and could make a better ILB (w added weight) than a hybrid S because he has a difficult time with his hips in vertical coverage.

He is still better than what we had at the dime w Golden/Gay BUT I would rather them try him at ILB because IF we don't get a back-up to Bostic at the Mack, we could be in trouble. Our present ILB group are all lacking speed and coverage ability.
