By Beth Ruzanic SteelerNation.com Draft day is upon us and for Pittsburgh Steelers fans everywhere, it is an exciting time. The air is thick with possibilities of players that will join our ranks and lead us to a 7th Lombardi Trophy. By far my favorite first round pick was Troy Polamalu in 2003. I had […]

I was born in 1978, so I just missed out on the Super Bowl runs and a franchise QB, so by the time I really started watching and remembering we were in the Malone era, then Bubby, Neil, Kordell, Tomczak, Graham, Maddox, so it's very easily the pick of Ben is my favorite, draft day memory. I was in the East Club Lounge when the pick was announced, the place went crazy like we just won the Super Bowl, except one fan who was beyond pissed and stormed out.

My favorite draft memory has to be the 2006 draft. Not just because of the pick, but because of the format. I loved the 2 day Saturday/Sunday format. One of my best friends, came to stay the weekend, and we settled down with a case of Yeuengling in a cooler between us, snacks and food at the ready, and we wouldn't leave the screen until the draft was over.

We were just fans of football, not expecting much, since the Steelers were picking last, since they won the Super Bowl in 05. Then BANG, steelers trade up 7 slots to grab Santonio Holmes! We went nuts!! Completely unexpected. Little did we know, 3 short years later, he'd be the Super Bowl MVP? What a ride for him.

Also enjoyed the 2007 draft the same way. I remember we were pegged to pick Timmons, but I was disapointed the Jets jumped in front of us to grab Revis from Pit. So we had our linebacker. I was wearing my Dirt Dawson jersey fully expecting to draft Ryan Kalil in the 2nd round, since we needed a center. Nope, Woodley instead. At the time, it was the most disappointed over not getting a player in the 2nd round. We'd wait until 2010 to get Pouncey...

I don't like the current format. Having just one round by itself makes get-togethers kind of dumb.
