What do we think our beloved Brown will think of these two big contracts going out to dez and Thomas today. Wasn't there rumblings early this spring about him wanting more money. If he puts up big numbers again this year, he is going to want mo money.

He is going to want double what he is making now and that is probably fair market value. Hopefully they can come up with something.

The player's union alleged collusion between the cowboys and broncos. They denied it. Then both player sign nearly the same deal within hours of each other. Hmmm.

So here are our options:
1. Make an exception to the "1 year left rule" and extend AB after this year. Give him something similar knowing that in two years his demand will almost certainly be even higher.
2. Wait until 1 year left and try to extend him either before or after that year, hoping he will give some kind of "hometown" discount.
3. Same as 2 but just pay the man.
4. Same as 2 but if he won't come to terms in summer before his last year trade him.
5. Let his contract play out and then play the franchise game: franchise him at a high 1-year deal while trying to work out a long term deal. My understanding of the CBA is that we can franchise him like that for 2 years in a row if need be.
6. Let him play out the contract and then let him walk . . .no one WR is worth that much!

My guess is that we will probably do #5. With #6 and #1 being possible also.

Im torn on Brown... he absolutely deserves to be paid like the beast he is, but wideouts arent ever worth the money they get in the overall scheme of a football team... plus we can find wideouts with no problem these days... is his magnificence worth losing a player or two at other spots that are harder to fill? I dont know....

They find ways to keep guys they want, and i doubt they play the franchise game with him. There is no way i see us trading him or letting him walk unless he gets a big head and his demands are unreasonable. If he keeps his head on straight and produces this year then i say just go with #1. If the steelers stick to their tradition then either 2 or 3 will happen.

Or it might be that Brown was sincere in what he said about money after all the hod out rumors were bandied about earlier with apparently no basis in fact. After looking at what he is getting paid and his production he might just want something that is in the fair range and not the stupid range. Remember he saw Mike Wallace leave for crazy money and become unemployed by the team that gave him the money. He might just go from being young money to smart money and realizing that getting paid for the next five years might be better than getting paid for the next two and released.

This is what AB will be demanding and what we will have to make a decision on after next season. I'd still be surprised if the Steelers changed their policy and negotiated with him with 2 years left on his contract. He signed a great deal, at the time, and has blossomed since Wallace left. If Wallace would have taken that deal, AB probably wouldn't even be on the team anymore. He will get paid but he will have to wait until his contract has a year left or he will opt to leave for more money via FA.

The best receiver in the league doesn't have to demand anything. He gets paid market value. And if he's the best, his pay will reflect it. If not with us, then with another team. If he continues to excel the next 2 seasons, he's a lock to get a 3rd contract with us.

Everyone tries to measure AB up against other receivers. You can't. He's the measuring stick for the new, uncoverable receiver. Work-Ethic, Quickness, preciseness of routes, speed, aggressiveness, intelligence, and hands. He's a faster, shorter Jerry Rice.

Umm. Isn't Wallace still employed by the Vikibgs via trade? Did he take a paycut or something?

At this point...he deserves at least what they got paid...

The problem is did they deserve what they got paid? If not, neither does he. At some point paying the market rate for a star player becomes detrimental to your team.

might be, and you confirmed my point he did not get to complete that big money contract or remain with the team that gave it to him and is now making much less. He is also with out a very good to great quarterback throwing the ball to him. Sometimes you need to look at stupid money vs real money and real opportunities. There are only a few places that a great wide out would want to go if he wants to be great for very long. I will say that should be one of the teams that has one of the top ten qbs in the game now, if another team offers crazy money it will not be worth it to you to go there.

He was traded along with his contract. So unless they renegotiated his deal he is still being paid the money on his contract. That is why I asked if he took the pay cut. I just don't remember reading that he reworked his deal. If so he might of as well did that in Miami. Also with his contract Wallace took home a large portion of it in signing bonus. This is what the players are looking for any more. If they get cut they could just move on to the next team and sign another deal with another signing bonus. Get paid while you can is the name of the game today.

Wallace was not utilized in Miami to his strengths. Almost relegated to short crossing routes.

I don't believe he has re-worked his contract in any way.

Having AP in the backfield is going to benefit Wallace in ways he's never seen before. Bridgewater will soon learn the art of a long pass.

and the upset of stone hands.

I just don't think the Steelers budge next year either. He will be making 8.25 million base so it is not liking he's not getting paid. If he holds out I could see a trade or the FO just letting him wait it out and get fined every week he holds out. We still will have Bryant, Wheaton, and third round pick Sammie Coates so his bargaining power might be very nil.

I think the cowmen got a good deal. They didn't have to pay Dez any more money because he has no brain...hence, less money. AB will break the bank.

I don't ever get too caught up in the players getting paid. It's pretty simple, when it is his turn he will get paid. Either the Steelers will pony up, or someone else will. And like every player who decides to leave for more money he will get bashed like he wasn't **** when he was here, if that's what he decides to do. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I don't see any reason for the Steelers to break the mold when it comes to redoing his deal. He has three years left on his contract and can wait like everyone else (but the quarterbacks) until the final year of his deal when he'll get a very, very lucrative contract as long as they still want him.

Next year would be a good moment to try to extend him. Right now the FO has to stay put
