From other thread, I saw a comment comparing Devin Bush in coverage to Larry Foote.

1. Foote was criminally under appreciated. While he was overshadowed by 3 stars he played with, man did his role & played smart.

2. There seems to be this narrative that Devin Bush is great against the run and making tackles but a liability vs. the pass. Right now there’s probably some truth to that. However, Ryan Shazier did not jump out of the gate as a great coverage LB either & many were quick to criticize the pick (and how should have taken CJ Mosely). Bush has the attitude and ability to improve his technique as he gets more experience.

3. Bush has already demonstrated the ability to make splash plays and is amazing athlete. I would wager anyone on this board that when Dupree leaves via free agency next year that Bush will be featured a lot more on the pass rush as well.

4. Speaking of Dupree: I repeatedly said for the first three years of his career that he was always in the area of making plays but was out-of-control. Once he adapted, and the game slowed down for him, he began converting those efforts into results. Next time you feel that urge to write off Bush—remember similarities & Dupree.

I think Bush is fine in coverage on RBs or decent TEs but upper tier TEs that is another story. He may get better in that area or he may not we'll see..

Bush has the potential to be a Ray Lewis type ILB. He has a good football IQ and his speed is more like Lewis. He’s still developing but that’s my observation

Bush seems to not have the physicality when he gets tied up in blocks to close to line of scrimmage,

Devin Bush is a pretty small ILB. He is very athletic and tackles well for size. I'm not sure he will develop to the cost to get but he will be good. Shazier was nothing special his first two seasons.

My take.

1 ) Agreed Foote was solid, but he wasn't asked to be a coverage 3rd down linebacker.

2 ) Shazier covered better than our safeties did, and IMO is/was a better player. Bush has problems vs the pass. If a team used a FB, I'd also queison his lability to get off blocks.

3 ) Bush can't beat an NFL tackle as a edge rusher. No-no. But he can blitz well up the middle. He's not replacing what Durpee is doing.

4 ) Dupree lacked the football IQ for the game. He's better now, but aside from one nice play he had, he pretty much did little else in the game vs the Broncs. Playing next to Watt makes him look better. IMO while Durpee is pro bowl caliber on the Steelers, he would not be on another team.

there's a very good analys on the Depot regarding Fant's TD and Bush's responsability on it. Edmunds doesn't look good in the picture

Edmunds best plays are the ones he almost makes.

Like that game ENDing sack.................... Edmonds is better than most think but slightly above average on a pro-bowl caliber defense.

Salute the nation

PFF isn't the end all be all with grades, but his grades this year have been subpar so far and the stats they have him ranked 1st and 2nd in targets (14) and receptions allowed (9). It's only been two games, but he is the weakest starter on this defense. I've yet to see any flashes that he might make a jump like Dupree eventually did.

Devin Bush will be fine. He is already on the field damn near the whole game (if not the whole game) with the green dot so just think about that one for a minute. And they've been blitzing like crazy leaving a lot of guys in man coverage and it's bit all of them at one point or another. He's got it figured out from the neck up, is super fast sideline to sideline and can tackle. He's not going to be perfect though.

Remember the video of when Lawrence Timmons was getting juked outta his jock trying to cover Le'Veon Bell? It's going to happen.

I just said the same to my dad recently. Are you listening in on my calls? LOL.

(Again, the middle is where he plays) He's not replacing what Durpee is doing. (And, he'll never be asked to do so on a consistent basis ... So, that's good)

4 ) Dupree lacked the football IQ for the game. He's better now, but aside from one nice play he had, he pretty much did little else in the game vs the Broncs. (That's kinda like sayin TJ did little in the game VS the Giants. Neither you, nor I, know exactly what they were asked to do against the teams they've played so far. I'll take Bud going off one game and TJ going off the next if that's the way it plays out.) Playing next to Watt makes him look better. (He plays on the OPPOSITE side of TJ, not next to him) IMO while Durpee is pro bowl caliber on the Steelers, he would not be on another team.(Maybe. Maybe not. We'll get a chance to see next year).

Two games in, I'm not worried about Bush. Bush will be fine.

Probably will never be a star. but that doesn't mean he can't still improve. For me we have had worse at the position. I guess I am not as down on him as some others...

Learning the little "tells" receivers give about ball location and then turning around and playing the ball would help his game a whole lot.

The kid is doing ok...but he definitely benefits from the talent around him...

As I mentioned last year, IMO his body still needs to develop into a NFL ILB...

Im sure he is getting the strength training he needs..

I am not as down on Edmunds as many are, but he still hasn't really flashed like another level is coming. Dupree - you could see from time to time a flash of his physical ability. I just haven't seen that "flash" of another gear from Edmunds. He is a Steeler; I root for him, but I admit I clutch my pearls a little bit when pass plays go his way.
