He isn't in charge of hiring and firing. He wanted to keep BA and was told no. He was told that Butler was the heir apparent to the DC job. So now he coaches LBs while Tomlin runs the defense. I haven't seen anything that makes me think he is in charge of hiring or firing anyone. Most good coaches have people they are mentoring. Tomlin doesn't.
yes, cope. And bermudasteel,,,, always
But ST coach Danny Smith has never had a losing season with the Steelers.I agree with Ron that ST is a mess, and I expected a change this season. If it doesn't improve this year, that is on Tomlin.
The general feeling was that the league had figured out DLB's defense, a change was needed, and Butler could see what needed to change. Instead we got (my opinion) a hybrid of zone blitz and Tampa 2 without the talent to run either.Or perhaps he's utilizing consensus, which is a leadership move. Also didn't hurt that he had a past with Butler. This board was freakin screaming for Bulter to take over for Dick. And look what we got now. Sour grapes...

And the coverage teams, and kicking team were below the line last year...

Just curious, if Tomlin isn't allowed to hire or fire who he wants, then how can he be held responsible for who gets hired or fired?

I'm sure Tomlin liked Ariens. They were successful and made 2 superbowls with his offense. I can't speak to what was said between the HC and the front office, because I wasn't in the room, and neither were you. Consensus could be reached in that case because Ariens offense was killing Ben in the pocket. They decided they needed to make a change to protect the franchise. I can see that reasoning for making a change. And since Ben is still playing for us, it was probabably the right move.
And no one is madder than me about getting next to nothing for Bell and AB leaving. Said it muliple times, but that is more on Colbert's moves and what the Steelers were willing to accept to get them out of Pittsburgh.
I'm more mad that the head coach couldn't get a team with Ben, Bell, and AB to the Super Bowl.
That's tough to do when you've never had all 3 of them healthy by the end of a playoff game.
