Deadline for Steelers to extend linemen Beachum, Foster approaching
There's still time left for the Steelers and the starting left side of their offensive line — tackle Kelvin Beachum and guard Ramon Foster — to come to terms on contract extensions, but that time is quickly dissipating.
The Steelers have a long-standing policy of not negotiating contracts during the season, meaning there is a little more than 24 hours to work something out with Beachum and/or Foster before Thursday's season opener against the Patriots.
Even though the Steelers have created more than $9 million in cap space over the past week with restructures and sit $14 million under the cap, according to the NFLPA, it doesn't look promising that Beachum or Foster will get a deal done
“Talk to Mr. Colbert,” Beachum repeated, in reference to the Steelers GM, three times to three questions posed to him about his contract.
The Steelers do not comment on contract situations, and Beachum's agent, Roosevelt Barnes, did not return a message.
“Talk to him,” Beachum said of Colbert. “He makes the decisions here. I just play football.”
