By: G.Stryker,*Twitter @SNStryker and Instagram @SNStryker SteelerNation.com Dan McCullers has just been signed by the Chicago Bears.* The nose tackle was all but assured of a roster slot in the NFL when the Pittsburgh Steelers terminated his practice squad contract yesterday. The Bears have a need at nose tackle after their nose tackle John Jenkins […]

Wish him all the best. If he is a quality starter, I would have to question the Steelers talent evaluation after 4 years. I find it hard to believe he would be, but perhaps scheme change.

I look for BIG things from him in Chicago..

After watching Wormsley during his limited snaps this season....I think Big Dan was better actually..

Buggs has gotten snaps at nose. Wormley is a DE backup.

Best of luck Big Dan. It's not a failure of our coaching staff if he excels elsewhere, It was more important to keep younger DTs with more upside.

If something happens to Alualu, they have Buggs, kept Carlos Davis on the 53 and Wormley could slide down in an emergency. They don't use the big run stuffer NT anymore like in the days of Big Snack or Steed. I am not sweating the loss of Big Dan although I wish him well.

Sorry Cope. If he is a 3/4 nose here for 4 years and they get next to nothing from the guy and he goes plays 3-4 nose on another team and is a bon a fide useful starter, that is on the Steelers coaches. If he say became a 4-3 DT I could live with that. I don't believe he will become anything. I think Chicago is grasping in a thin market (pardon the pun)

just to add more to this thought - I watched him at camp a few years back. He never seemed to look beyond the blocker to see the backfield. Even if he did, he never shed the blocker but just continued to push upfield. He certainly lacked lateral quickness and was never going to be a 2 gap NT like Snack was. Of course, we don't use the NT that way anymore very often. Now, not all 3-4 fronts must use the NT as a 2 gap guy so the main point I think you are making is taht he needs a single gap and line up in the gap rather than straight zero tech over the center. I could maybe see him in a 43 that tilts the NT and lets him play a "neck" technique on the OC. Admittedly, I don't watch enough of other teams defenses anymore to see if anyone even uses a tilt in the NFL these days.

sounds about right...Cult hero, nothing more
