Coordinators Thread

Supposedly some of the wants are coaches they had to request permission to seek out.

Not sure who would take a lateral position to come to the Steelers.

I know they payed Mikey well but are they gonna pony up the dough for top notch coordinators?
I think you will know a lot about the Steelers by who the coordinators are. Especially the defensive coordinator.

If it is an up and comer that would help, if it is a retread Ruhroh…

The DC is now the biggest chess piece. Whoever the OC is he's going to answer to McCarthy anyhow. If McCarthy isn't calling the plays every one of them is going through him. They need a really good DC and lots of good position guys.

perfect scenario for me would be Schwartz leaving Cleveland and coming here.

Al Harris wouldn't be horrible
Oc? Not really sure Scheelhasse would be great but might be a HC.

Someone as OC that knows the importance of the run game, but is not married to n it if you are going against the #1 on ranked run defense

Schwartz, Weaver are the big names. Harris is one I'm seeing more than any other. When he was Dallas DB coach, they had 85 ints. He played for Mccarthy, then he brought him to Dallas as a coach. He's currently the bears DB and passing game coordinator.

A lot of the other names are just being linked from past links to Mccarthy, and I don't really see them as options.

I'm on board with Harris as DC, if that is what they decide to do.

I like that he's coached both sides of the ball (especially offense under Ben Johnson.)

Also, coaches that played DB at a high level in the NFL tend to make great DCs (at the least).

It was the case with Dick Lebeau and Tony Dungy, and more recently with Aaron Glenn as the Lions DC, though his first year as Jets HC was bad.

I would like to see McCarthy find an up and coming coordinator, pluck someone from the Demeco Ryan/Texan tree or the Mike Macdonald tree. If not there are a few retreads that I would be fine with.

I would love to see Schwartz but I think he may end up the odd man in for the Browns with Haslam chasing everyone away and sounding worse than what Jerry Jones can be. May god have mercy on his soul and sanity.

Other retreads I would be good with but in no ranking order
Raheem Morris. Wink Martindale.

Right now the fans are defining McCarthys hire by the coordinators he brings in. Or should I say the coordinators Rooney brings in.

I’d be shocked if these hires are not nepo babies, but looking forward to seeing who he/they select.

I think Schwartz will end up being the clowns HC. He just got a second interview.

Poor guy…

A lot of smoke around Graham today. There are multiple analysts who would love the hire. I've read he's elevated defenses with no talent, which is why the overall stats are bad. Advanced analytics look better for the performance and he's not married to a specific scheme, but rather adapts the defense to the players. I see the vision, though he wouldn't be at the top of my list.

I agree that Lunda Wells and Graham are the most likely hires.

The last two times the Steelers hired TE coaches as OCs, it worked out pretty well with Mike Mularkey and Ken Whisenhunt.
I think TE coaches see more of the bigger picture than a WR/RB coach. They are involved in all aspects of the offensive game plan, running, passing and blocking.

Supposedly, Rooney feels they will spend what is needed. He indicated that MM will find the best and they will pay for them.

Not meant to say MM has sole say in who they hire.

I think is was indicated that MM / Kahn / both Rooney’s.

Salute the nation
