Tuesday night is the first one of the season. who's everybody got for the 1st one. here is mine

1. Alabama- no shock here
2. Georgia- no shock also
3. Ohio State- not were I would put them, but the committee will.
4. Penn State- most of you won't agree with this, but I think the committee will.
5. Notre Dame- could very well be #4, but I'm putting them here.

The rest is anyone guess.

Bama
Georgia
Oklahoma
Ohio St.
ND
Miami
Wisconsin
Clemson
Penn St.

Penn State was really dominated by OSU and was lucky they didn’t lose by 20+. Pains me to say it, but they are probably 8-10 best team in the country.

Have to agree - dominated on both sides of the ball and only OSU mistakes kept them in the game - and I don't think Ohio State is all that much better than last year when they were destroyed by Clemson.

Dominated on both sides of the ball? That’s not true. Penn State’s big plays led to OSU having lots of possession time which led to them getting worn down. PSU’s weakness is lack of depth and that’s why OSU looked better and better as the game progressed. The flood gates really opened when PSU lost their LT.

Regardless, it was a 1 point road loss to a top team so it will not hinder PSU that much. They lost a game, so like all teams that lost, they will likely need some help.

PSU likely needs an OSU loss, or they need for 2 of the 5 conference champs to have 2 losses so that the committe selects 2 teams from the same conference. The problem with that is Georgia and Bama will likely both be unbeaten heading to the SEC champ so if the game is close, they will likely take both of them.

Notre Dame could be the team that keeps PSU out. This is still a money thing and ND will get in if they are close.

As for the first rankings, you have to remember that this comittee supposedly goes 100% by what has happened and does not project forward. If you go by that then Georgia should be 1 over Bama and i think they will. Georgia has 1 good win. Bama has none.

Here’s my guess at the first ranking
1 Georgia
2 Alabama
3 Ohio State
4 Notre Dame
5 Oklahoma
6 Penn State
7 Oklahoma
8 Wisconsin
9 Miami
10 Clemson

Official Ranking is out

1 Georgia
2 Alabama
3 Notre Dame
4 Clemson
5 Oklahoma
6 Ohio State
7 Penn State
8 TCU
9 Wisconsin
10 Miami

Georgia has to be over Bama for now. Bama has no good wins now that FSU has gone down the toilet.

Kind of a joke to have Notre Dame so high. They have a loss and their big wins are USC and NC State, both 2 loss teams who have been shaky. NC State's ranking is partly based on them beating FSU early when it looked like a good win, but now FSU is 2-5

Same with Clemson. They have wins over Auburn and Va Tech. Both solid but not spectacular wins. They also have a bad loss vs Syracuse.

The big message sent with these rankings is the committee apparently thinks the ACC is awesome right now. One would think that Ohio State with a loss to Oklahoma and a win vs Penn State would be ahead of Clemson.

You have to remember this is a TV show. They intentionally build in controversy to get people talking.

There's a lot of football to be played yet. if Penn State wins out, I like there chances. I see Ohio State, Oklahoma losing an either ND or Clemson losing. with Ohio State beating Wisconsin in the Big 10 Champ game. a 1 loss PSU will get in over a 2 loss OSU. damn that's a lot stuff to happen. but I believe it will.(at least my heart hopes so,haha)

The *** kissing of Notre Dame is ridiculous. Both they and Clemson are rated way too high. Should be:
1. Georgia
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma
4. Ohio State
5. Penn State

As long as Notre dame has a good record they will be ranked too high... somehow even the supposed fair ranking system rewards "royalty" or something

You guys must not be watching the same Notre Dame team as I am....

They are a formidable foe for any program and should of beat Georgia earlier this year.

In addition...they are coming off back to back dismantling of 2 - top 15 ranked teams.

Josh Adams for Heisman BTW!

Yeah 38 to 39 is not being dominated. It's called ****** play calling in the 4rh to deal with the rush...haha.. That game came down to just a few plays on either side.

Oh bullshit! Talk about overrated, that would be the Big 10. Boston College and Wake Forest are better than most of the Big 10 teams right now. Outside of the Big 10, PSU and OSU have beaten no one.

yeppers...

ND has another tough game this week against Wake Forest..

They have a good program going on down there right now...and as a ND fan ...this game is concerning for me.

Georgia's defense really stepped up in South Bend.
The offense was still a question mark at that time. Jake Fromm has really found his groove.
The rushing attack of UGA is no joke either. Chubb doesn't run as strong post injury but Swift and Michel keep opposing defenses guessing

The first of six College Football Playoff rankings were released Tuesday, and the 13-member selection committee decided

Georgia (8-0) was the top team in the nation,

followed by Alabama (8-0)

Notre Dame (7-1)

and Clemson (7-1)

Oklahoma (7-1) and Ohio State (7-1) are just outside the top four

with Penn State (7-1) also on the outside looking in

If the Bowl games were played today, the Bulldogs would play the Tigers in the Sugar Bowl, while the Crimson Tide would face off against the Fighting Irish in the Rose Bowl.

Anyone who doesn't think ND should be top 5 right now is just hating on ND. They already beat 3 ranked teams by 20+ points and their only loss is by 1 point to undefeated GA.

PSU and Alabama haven't won a game against a currently ranked opponent all season.

I have little to no concern with the rankings as released. Plenty of ball left to play and it will all settle how it settles. Let's see if Clemson has an easy time with NC State this weekend. It's also not outside the realm of possibility that OK State beats Oklahoma. Putting tOSU at 6 actually gives Urban one of his favorite cards to play in the locker room: "Ohio Against The World".

LOVE this time of year!

The score didn’t reflect it, but the yardage and Barret completing 85% of his passes sure as hell does.

the yardage differential was due to Penn State having a kick return TD, another long punt return setting up a short field drive and a turnover setting up another short field. Ohio State's special teams was terrible. Penn State had lots of short drives while OSU was driving the length of the field.

PSU converted these opportunities into points but ultimately they led to them getting worn out. They still lack depth. They just got back to 85 scholarships last year.

They lost their starting DE in the first quarter and that meant they had no rotation on the DL. They were too tired by the 4th. Barrett had all day to throw which is why he looked great instead of the mediocre passer that he really is.

This year and last are gravy for Penn State. They are way ahead of schedule in rebuilding and now Franklin has some real top end talent on the way.
