College Football Week 12
ESPN Gameday will be in Pittsburgh this week for the ND game. Narduzzi had this to say
Who's ready to run through a brick wall for this man?
The NCAA vacated wins from Michigan! No, not the team that cheated with an undercover spy to win a national championship. That's all fine. Nope, they vacated 14 wins from Michigan State from 22 to 24 for supposedly playing 3 ineligible players.
Yep, that's super important. Drop the hammer for some technical violation on Michigan State, but Michigan is still all good. Hilarious.
In other insane news, LSU is trying to get out of Brian Kelly's 50+ Million buyout. They offered him less. Why the hell would he take less? Now LSU is trying to claim they never actually fired him.
Didn't the freaking Governor call a press conference to dance on Kelly's grave?
Kelly is a first rate d-bag but you can't just weasel out of a contract. Prospective coaches have to see this too. Take the LSU job and if you don't win big immediately, they'll fire you and try to break your contract.
Penn State at Michigan State 3:30 CBS PSU -7.5
Penn State needs to win the remaining 3 games against MIch State, Nebraska, and Rutgers to avoid a losing record and be bowl eligible. Would PSU even accept a bowl? Aside from the Ohio State game, Penn State has been close and could have won all 5 other losses. They lost 5 games by a combined 16 points.
The biggest reason for these close losses is Penn State just doesn't have a that elite playmaker to make the big play when you need it. Last year they had Warren and Abdul Carter. This year nobody has stepped up to make the key play.
The offense in the 2nd half vs Indiana finally looked like a functional passing attack. They finally threw down the field. But then when the game was on the line and PSU needed 1 more 1st down. Kotalniki couldn't help himself.
He called a trick play where the TE lined up at RT, then the linemen all motioned left, making him eligible. Half the Indiana defense was pointing at the TE and calling alert before the snap. Shocker that it didn't work.
Penn State probably can go back to their conservative offense, run the ball and beat MSU. I hope they keep throwing.
9 Notre Dame at 22 Pitt 12:00 ABC ND -12.5
ESPN Gameday will be in Pittsburgh. I wonder if this will be a bit of a dress rehearsal for the NFL draft next year. Narduzzi is correct that this is not an ACC game and will not hurt their chances to play in the ACC Championship, but you still want to win it. Pitt's schedule has been light so far but they finish up with ND, Georgia Tech and Miami, so Shi about to get real.
Wisconsin at 2 Indiana 12:00 BTN IU -29.5
Last week Wisconsin beat Washington with their punter as leading passer with 24 yards. This game will be interesting to see is Wisconsin tries to replicate Penn State's defensive gameplan which gave Indiana trouble most of the game.
11 Oklahoma at 4 Alabama 3:30 ABC Ala -6.5
Let's hope Bama doesn't look past Oklahoma to their big showdown with East Illinois next week. This would be loss 3 for Oklahoma which should knock them out of playoff contention but even if they lose, ESPN will still pretend they're awesome to try to get 5 or 6 SEC teams in the playoff. This should be the last hurdle for Bama unless they choke in the Iron Bowl in a few weeks.
21 Iowa at 17 USC 3:30 BTN USC -6.5
Iowa is coming off a heartbreaking last second loss vs Oregon. Oregon then kept it classy by running to the endzone to taunt the Iowa fans. No word if they threw up the middle finger to the hospital kids. USC is still alive for the playoff with just 2 losses. They've struggled with physicality in the Big 10. That's all Iowa does.
19 Virginia at Duke 3:30 ESPN2 Duke -4.5
Virginia had an awful loss to Wake last week. They're still ranked but the ACC will have trouble getting multiple teams into the playoffs. VA will need to win out for a playoff shot. A loss here will allow for another SEC team to get jammed in there.
Florida at 7 Ole Miss 7:00 ESPN Miss -14.5
Florida has plenty of talent but they may have packed it in for the year. They were blown out by a bad Kentucky team last week. Ole Miss survive their battle with The Citadel last week. They only have Florida and Miss State left so they should cruise into the playoff. The only question is whether they make it into the SEC champ game.
10 Texas at 5 Georgia 7:30 ABC UGA -5.5
Huge game for the SEC standings. Both have 1 SEC loss. The loser is likely eliminated from SEC contention but will still be alive for the playoffs. Texas has 2 losses and Texas A&M still on the schedule so they need this game more. Both teams are stocked with talent but streaky. I have no idea which way this one will go.
TCU at 12 BYU 10:15 ESPN BYU -4.5
BYU got smoked by Texas Tech last week. That's their only loss on the season. If BYU can win out, they can set up the chance to get beat down by TT again in the Big 12 title game. How will the committee view a 2 loss BYU if both losses are to top 10 Texas Tech?
