There is something going on here that doesn't quite make sense to me. How is it that ND is ranked behind Oklahoma with identical records based on the strength of schedule rankings that has the Sooners schedule ranked 2nd hardest, and the Irish's 14th? That would be fine if they didn't have Michigan St. ranked ahead of Notre Dame, seeing as how their SOS ranking is 24th. That's the rub. Apparently, Oklahoma being 12 spots ahead of ND gives them the edge even though they lost to a 4-6 team that Notre Dame beat by 35 points, while ND's only loss was on the road to the #1 team in the country ... and a close one at that. On the flip side, however, Notre Dame's 10 spot advantage in the SOS rankings doesn't seem to carry nearly the same weight when compared with Michigan St. The Spartans leap frogging of ND was no doubt based on the fact that they beat the Buckeyes... in other words, one game. Am I interpreting this the wrong way or am I correct in saying that the committee is completely contradicting itself by putting the emphasis on one aspect of the criteria when deciding where ND should be in relation to Oklahoma, while emphasizing the exact opposite in their comparison with MSU?
