I know this isn't a new issue, but still I am looking for a good answer.

What on earth is the Championship game doing being played on Monday night?

Isn't there more money in putting this game on the weekend? Just don't understand it.

I would think the game could get Super Bowl like ratings and a greater buzz (people having parties and what not)

What am I missing?

It wouldn't compete against the NFL on a Friday. Or even on a Sunday evening on the MLK weekend where some people are off on Monday.

Ratings will be better on a Monday night not up against the NFL Playoffs...

...and...

Travel considerations for teams and fans. Unlike the NFL Playoffs, the CFB Invitational Championship is played at a neutral site. Normally it would be a 10-day span, but this year it is only 7 days...I'd rather they push it off another week like the SB...but college administrators aren't the brightest

My problem is more with it being rigged than when it’s played. I won’t be watching.

UCF National Champs

UNdefeated UCF declared themselves National Champs. They even paid their coaches their bonuses for winning the national championship. They went undefeated and they beat Auburn, who beat both teams in the championship, so their claim is as good or better than anyone else’s.

I agree with this. UCF proved they can play with the “big” teams and was snubbed for another SEC final. I’m glad the school took care of their own the way they did.

I for one would like to know when ESPN took over all the major bowl games that used to be hosted by ABC, CBS, or NBC. I hated the idea you had to have some type of TV service to see the games at all.

2010 I believe

Friday would be a much better choice.

Auburn was supposed to end UCFs Championship argument and they failed.

The supposed championship is really an invitational, and a very small one at that. It’s not a legitimate playoff

Yep....undefeated Conference Champs who beat the team that beat Alabama and Georgia. They are the National Champs.
The game on Monday is an exhibition.

This ^^

College football and the NFL have a very protective relationship. The NFL realizes what a massive benefit they have in college football acting as their minor leagues, and college returns the favor by not competing for viewership with the NFL.

They are the largest school in the country, and are playing in a ****** conference by choice. They are surrounded by SEC and ACC schools and would probably be welcomed by either conference. Also, pointing at the Auburn win over Georgia, while missing the absolute shellacking that Ga. put on Auburn the last time they played doesn't make a lot of sense. Want to play in the Playoff? Play somebody worth a damn, before you win a bowl game that leaves people wondering.

I guess they could schedule Mercer College, powerhouse that Mercer is.

ROLL TIDE!

Nick Saban is a GOD!

Not buying travel considerations when the basketball schedule is what it is, and their playoff has teams in 4 different cities in four weekends.

For UCF backers, what if ND joined the AAC and played The likes of Temple, Navy, And Nevada as their non conference games..... would you insist they get in? Or be declared champions?
Just wondering.

aac? You mean if they won instead of UCF? Why would that change anything? I’m not a fan of UCF, I’m a fan of teams getting in on merit, not opinion.

That has never happened in the history of Division 1 football...

What needs to happen (and probably never will) is a 16-team playoff where every conference champion gets in (11) and then you have 5 at-large selections. That's how literally every other collegiate playoff works...including Division 1-AA, Division 2 and Division 3 football. ONLY Division 1-A (FBS) does it this way. It desperately needs to change.

As for UCF, yes, they proved they can beat an SEC team...once. Good on ya. They played only 1 Power 5 school all year (Maryland)...UCF's non-conference schedule was pathetic. If you play in the AAC or the Mountain West or whatever lower conference, you have to go out and schedule Power 5 teams in your non-conference slots...because your conference games are the SEC/Big10/ACC/BigXII's cupcake games.
