Im not big on bringing back former players for the big jobs like HC or GM. I think that is a pander to the fans that limits your prospective pool. Though that is mostly from hockey where it happens alot. However, I liked Ward being at camp this year. He was a detail oriented guy. He had to be because he wasnt a athletic phenom. Also I think he might be able to reighn in AB a bit. I just read that Coach Mann is retiring after this season. Coach Ward?

Not sure that will be enough to thrust him into Mann's position in year two. Small body of work IMO. But for the future sure who knows.

Warde needs more experience as a coach. I don't know what he's been doing since his playing days so maybe he has been coaching to a degree. The FO would have a hell of a lot better indication than I would. He definately had to be fine tuned to KNOCK out so many opposing players.....
Oh and we better catch him early as I think later in life he may have CTE. Remeber when he jumped all over Ben for not playing concussed??? How many times did Mr. Ward play while in that state??? NOT dissing Heinz, but later science is proving what happens with that sort of thing.

How much experience did Peezy have when he got OLBs. Keep him around for the whole season and get the routine down. He is shortly removed from playing and knows exactly what to do. In my experience you are either a coach or not. If he is he will be fine.
He definitely has the experience to work with the players. He will need to work on being a coach and separating himself from being one of the guys. I think he could do like Peezy has done and become a coach for us. It wouldn't suck to see him out there on the sideline with the patented Hines Ward smile.
AB is a better receiver hands down. However, he doesnt have the will to win that Ward had. Ward wanted the ball. They all want the ball, but AB is alot more about stats and contracts. Ward was all about winning.

Ward reminds me of that scene in the first Captain America movie where Rogers gets the **** kicked out of him and as the guy starts to walk away he gets up and says "Where you going? I can do this allll day."

I disagree with that. Ward had his own moments of contract issues. AB works incredibly hard at his craft yes he is a showboat but I think he works just as hard as Ward just goes about it a little differently.
Ward was already a coach when he was a player. I remember one training camp, when he had a hamstring injury, he didn't just work out on the sideline. He was on the field, putting his hands up in passing drills, to obscure the vision of the receivers. He was helping on the field, to make players better, even though he couldn't practice fully. Coaching is natural to him, and he'd be an excellent WR coach. Plus he knows how to properly use his hands to catch a ball!
Getting into contract disputes isnt being a money guy. Is Big Al a money guy? AB is a flashy guy. With the Rolls Royce show ups and all the **** and marketing himself and the twitter live bullshit. He is an undeniable talent. He has an undeniable work ethic. But he needs to be reigned in some. I think Ward would be good for it. Plus Ward played with Ben and understands him. He would be a good bridge between the receiver room and the Qbs. Keep him around for the season and see what happens.

I agree Ward will be a good influence I just disagree about AB not wanting to win as much as Ward. They are just very different people. Ward did showboat as well he just did it by physically destroying Bengals.
I think Ward was more about the team, AB is more about stats, as evidence of him complaining on the sideline after our td in the AFCCG because he didn't get it, or when Landry had to start 4 games in 2015 I believe, he was complaining about not getting the ball after a win. Heath Miller had to tell him to shut the hell up before about that.

I think that pretty much sums up my feelings on it. If I was to describe it Id say AB is a better receiver and Ward is a better football player.

I loved Ward and he was a true winner. But I have to disagree with anyone who says AB isn't a winner and doesn't want the ball in crunch time. I would refer them to the Ravens playoff game long, long ago.....like less than a year ago. How soon we forget.
No one is saying he isnt a winner or questioning his desire. But if you had to categorize them who is more of a diva and who is more of a football player?
As I recall, Peezy had been a college coach for a year or two before the Steelers hired him. I could be wrong though.
I remember one of the local sports radio guys relating a story that one day when he was leaving the Steelers practice facility he walked past the wide receivers room and it was Hines Ward up front on the chalkboard drawing up stuff for the other WR's.

One could argue the weakest positional areas of the team come from the coaches that were ex-Steelers. Peezy and Lake.
Both of those positions are going to change really quickly. I agree Ron. Ward was always a player coach in his later years. Thing is this. If you dont have outstanding physical gifts (and Ward didnt) you have to compensate. Catching a thousand passes from the jugs wont cut it. You have to become a student of the game. Pay him what he makes at his little CNN gig and let Mann mentor him for a year. You will have a good continuity next season.

I don't even think they do it for the fans, I just think they like to take care of their own. Jerry O. worked his way up to ILB coach. Lake has had his ups and downs. We've yet to see Porter develop an OLB. In some aspects, I do believe the defensive coaching staff hasn't developed the young defensive talent like we've seen the offensive staff do with the high draft picks.
However, as others have already said, even though Ward hasn't coach, he should be excellent in that role. He was always coaching the young receivers in the training camp.What I also like about him is that while he was a great player, he didn't have the same physical tools that many of the other greats had. He also did it all on the field so you have no concerns regarding what he can teach the receivers.
My point about that was in relationship to the Edmonton Oilers. They brought back guys from their glory years over and over until it became obvious it wasnt working.
