Cincy signs Chase to 4 year $161 million deal
& Tee Higgins to 4 year $115 million deal

I think we end up looking to this years draft for a WR ................. Not sure Pickens will make it to a second contract ...... one year tagged maybe

I don't know if he makes it that long. His effort is pathetic.

40 mil and 29 mil / yr for WRs that is pretty crazy. Looks like their D is going to suck again

If they were smart they would try to get a second or a late first for him this season. As more than likely he will walk so you might as well get a return for him.

But they can’t be accused of being overly smart so…

I totally agree with you here Slash.
If they keep him around you have to know he will pout and be a distraction when DK starts getting his targets.
They won’t commit a big contract to him and pay both these guys so yes, see if we can get a late first early second.
I’d also consider dropping one of these high defensive players contracts. Like Highsmith for a second round pick and starting Nicky Herbig there.
With those three premium picks which includes our original first round pick we could fix some holes.
I’d pick Walter Nolan out of Ole Miss for the DL.
Then draft Pickens replacement with one of the
second round picks. Then the other second round pick I’m wishing and hoping Jaxson Dart is there.
I like that kid and think he’s going to be a star in the league. Just look at his level of competition three years in the SEC throwing for close to 12,000 yards.Much better QB than tiny hands Pickett was coming out of college.
I know trading Highsmith probably not popular but we haven’t won anything with him.
Time to reshuffle the stale deck.

Cinci is obtuse... they made their Superbowl run a couple years ago when their DC had a strategic breakthrough propelling their D to match their O... they also have a grade A qb that makes wrs better.. so resugning Chase was a great idea...but signing a 2wr to franchise money is absolutely insane...

33% of their cap goes to those 3 this season... next year the cap likely breaks 300 million and those three may account for as much as 39% of that... when was the last time a team was carried to a super bowl win by the strength of their top 2 wrs?

They should have replaced Tee with a draft pick and spent that money on Hendrickson

That sure ties up a lot of cap between Tee, Chase, and Burrow.
They will no doubt be drafting for defense this year and next.
Hard to make a defense with so little cap space.

Which contract is better, Higgins or metcalf's ?

Metcalf has better numbers despite having to be the #1 WR and a significantly less productive QB. Higgins is 1 year younger and his contract is 4.25M cheaper per year

A lot of QBs are better than small hands, that was a Rooney pick all the way.

Those type of franchise WR contracts can match up nicely with a QB on his rookie deal.

It's only cheaper by year on the surface. If he hits incentives (more than likely games played and yards, since he can't stay healthy), it'll average 30m

I’ve seen a few pathetic post(s) here and there.""…….l.

Pickens trade rumors heating up, Jordan Schultz reporting that Steelers are taking calls. Pickens then (allegedly) subsequently unfollowed the Steelers on social media.

They’re not following the Bengals model and paying two WR top $$$, he either plays out this year and walks or is traded. Walking gives the Steelers a comp pick in the 2027 draft that will likely be in the low 100’s and could get negated by FA adds, they can likely get a higher pick in this year’s draft.

Could be a very interesting day.

uhhh, which FAs could mess that up now?
A trade of Pickens for a second moves Steelers up a year and a round, but still leaves a hole at WR. The WR pick early last year shows how plans with rookies do not always work out.

The only reasonable trade option for GP is if they get no less than a 2nd round pick for him. If he walks in free agency they will probably get a 3rd rounder for him anyway so I'd take a 3rd off the table. Plus, you aren't getting a replacement for him this year in the 3rd. I'd love to see GP and DK on the field together but as I've said since they got DK, I just don't see it happening.

The 3rd round comp pick they would get would be around pick 100, would be for 2027, and could be rescinded of the Steelers sign several FA’s next offseason.

If they get a pick at the top of the 3rd that’s essentially an entire round earlier, two drafts earlier. Egbuka would be an instant starter and beast in the run game.

Downside is losing Pickens in a contract year, which could mean he’s extra-motivated to produce. OTOH, he could go south if he’s not getting enough targets. It’s a risk for sure, but I think we all agree they’re not winning anything meaningful this season, which should be about feathering the next for the next franchise QB.

They are 4th and 3rd in the division last two years with those guys and not much injury excuse last season.
