The dude started playing football until his junior year in high school (He grew up playing soccer in Nigeria - which is probably why he has quick feet for a big guy. He's one of those kids who had a huge growth spurt later). Comes from a close family and doesn't btake for granted where's hes at today. Hise is huge. He turned down offers from Ohio State, Florida, NC State, Iowa, and Nebraska. He studies a lot of film and seems to be a high character guy (as a lot of young people are when they leave their home as a teen and are forced to grow up quickly.....ie he won't be a Mike Adams). He's 6 ft 6, 320 and further along the curve than when Villanueva was when he joined the Steelers and look what Munch did with him. Villanueva is 29 and obviously they didn't want to sign him to a massive deal. He will end up taking Gilbert or Villanuevas spot in two years.

Excellent project draftee. I'm glad we took him as you can't coach size and stregnth (you can to a degree but not to his degree). Munch will get this kid going in the right direction and the self motivation will carry him far. Diamond in the ruff and not burned out from playing his entire life................. Kewl Beans

Some here are having trouble accepting our picks because they don't conform to their 20+ mocks they put out so they can say they were right.......... Personally, I like all the different views of opinions with but bottom line is we got what we got so quit the Bitcoin as yaz can't change a thing about it. I think we got a walk on LB that will turn a head or two also........ I know your just putting sarcasm out there but you've seen what I'm talking about. STEELERS ROCK,.........KaBooM

I dont get the strong part. He put up 19 reps at the combine. Seems like it should have been more if he is strong

I don't get a few things. Anyone remember Nkwenti? A former 4th round pick with a similar background coming from Cameroon, Africa he appeared in just two games for the Steelers.

How did he Chukes work out?

In addition to being weak on the bench, Chukes had a very poor vertical jump ( This exercise is supposed to show the explosion in the legs ), and did not have good 40 yard dash time, and IMO had a below average 20-yard shuttle. The shuttle drill, which highlights side to side agility stopping and starting, I think is important for NFL Offensive tackles.

Reports that say that Chukes is a good athlete. Maybe they mean he has good balance, but speed, agility, or strength...not seeing that.

Mayock's report that says the tape is average....IN THE MAC...worries me.

I think OT wasn't a need over ILB, and this guy looks more like Essex, and Nkwenti to me and won't be a Beachum type of player.

We'll see. Munchak made something out of Hubbard who went from fringe NFL player to a money free agent. Hubbard will start next year.

Of course, Hubbard first love wasn't soccer, and he was born in the USA.

I guess that means Coach nailed it with facts and I can't say what he wrote is not true. But Hey, you gave me a D- the last time. Keep posting!

I find that if we had a set of principles on this board, sarcasm should be one of them

Oh, we have sarcasm here, you've got to wear the homers rose colored glass to see it best.

My takeaway from what I read about the pick is that he doesn't have that nasty finishing part to his game. If Munch can develop a punch and stop him from just catching guys rather than blocking them then we might have something. I think this pick is all about trust in our coaching staff.

While I have agreed with Coach's comments regarding his strength and other combine results, my takeaway has been that they watch the player all last year. "they", I'm assuming, includes Munchak or someone he trusts for the evaluation. They reviewed prior years and saw improvement each year.

Of course, this could just be blowing smoke. However, reason (which is in short supply) suggests that this is not the case and this was, indeed, a player they had targeted. It might be that they would have rather had him in the 4th, but did not have a 4th round pick, so had to pull the trigger then.

Overall, i trust that Munchak was in on the evaluation and helped make the call, which, IMO is more valuable than Kiper or any or the other talking heads' opinions. Even if I, now, went back and watched his video, am I going to assume that I see things that Munchak doesnt? No, I am not.

I think coach donated his........................ OH, you said principles...... I thought you said testicles ...............

Let's hope that he translates his ideal size into being an ideal tackle.

Cherry picking scenarios to fit your agenda....

Mathias Nkwenti was coached by Grimm. Russ made it definitely clear that Nkwenti enjoyed being called a football player rather than playing football. He got drafted, got his contract and was content. Grimm on numerous occasions said he needed more heart in his work.

Chuks is under a completely different scenario. He’s being coached by Munch, who has developed several players with lesser status. Big Al, Finley, Feiler and Hubbard just to name a few. Jury still out on Hawkins.

Combine numbers, blah, blah, blah. Have you watched game film on the kid? When are you going to get it through that skull full of mush that combine numbers isn’t the tell all of a players ability?

Yeah Mayock says his tape was average, which is fine, I guess Foster’s tape was terrible since he was a UDFA and look where he at. So what if he played in the MAC. If you are so worried, then you must have been wrought with angst by Ben, who played in the MAC. Hundreds of other players have had long productive careers coming from that conference. So gives us a break with your competition level angle. All that matters is a players will to be a good football player. Nkwenti didn’t have the will to play, just the desire to be called a NFL player.

As for Chuks “good athlete” reports....it’s because he played soccer first growing up genius. He’s only played 5 years of tackle football so he has a high ceiling.

So you haven’t nailed anything with facts genius. The only thing proffered from you is the same agenda based opinion that you think you know more than you do.

So I try and look at the volume of information available, rather than just the stuff that backs up my opinion. Interesting article from CBS Sports about Day 2 draft talent that looks like a bargain. Three entries bear mention:

5. Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State: So ... my QB1 is still on the board. Remember, Derek Carr was picked in the second round of the 2014 draft, and he became the best signal-caller from that class. Rudolph has impeccable downfield touch, is very experienced and a natural pocket drifter. The Broncos at No. 40, Dolphins at No. 42 or Patriots at No. 43 are all sensible destinations for the former Oklahoma State star.

8. James Washington, WR, Oklahoma State: Washington is the premier deep threat in this class. Forget the timed speed. He's built like a running back and isn't super-agile in space. He tracks the football outrageously well and doesn't mess around when the ball is in his hands. He gets north-south in a hurry. The Cardinals at No. 47, or the Cowboys at No. 50 would be an awesome fits.

15. Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan: Blessed with outstanding size and strength but somewhat raw because he's relatively new to football, Okorafor mauls in the run game and utilizes his long, powerful arms well. He reminds me of Morgan Moses. The Chargers could use him.

Additionally, at least three mock drafts had him as a second round player:

45. Green Bay Packers: Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan
Green Bay doesn’t like to pass on offensive tackles it can develop, and Okorafor has left tackle upside.

So the stories about Okorafor being a 4th round talent, no mock had him as high as 92, nobody saw him in the 3rd, blah, blah are simply wrong.
