Carson Wentz?

Not next year. His cap hit next season is like $59 million. They can’t cut him, and nobody is trading for that contract. Went is going to be the most expensive back up in NFL history.

EDIT: his cap hit is $59 million if released. It would still be just under $35 million if traded. Still wouldn’t make that deal.

Now if Stafford comes available, I would definitely kick the tires on that.

The eagles are seriously cap strapped too, like twice as bad as the Steelers...

That would be a HELL NO. His mechanics are horrible, sub par accuracy, and he was the worst QB in the league by every metric before he got benched. IMO, he is done.

I really liked Wentz coming out of college, and I think he just needs to reset his career somewhere outside of Philadelphia. The whole Foles Super Bowl MVP thing ****** him up mentally, and then they go and draft Hurts in the second round this year, further destroying his confidence. People make fun of the change of scenery thing, but I believe it is real in this case. Unfortunately, his contract prohibits him from becoming a Steeler.

I'd take a long look at Trubisky in free agency if the Steelers don't draft a QB. Or even a trade for Darnold. These guys are still young and have potential.

He'd obviously have to take a substantial pay cut.

Any team interested would have to see how much he really wants to start over with a new team.

I think the Eagles may have been setting Wentz up to fail. They were barely using Miles Sanders, barely doing any roll outs or play action. They had Wentz waiting for Travis Fulgham to get open. He played most of the year without Alshon Jeffrey, jalen raegor, Desean Jackson and Etrz. Goedert even missed games and so did Miles Sanders. The put Wentz out there to take a beating and did little to help him with playcalling. No, he did not play well but it was a no win situation with no weapons, a swiss cheese OL, and awful playcalling.

As soon as they switch to Hurts, all of a sudden they are using Sanders and there's lots of bootlegs and misdirections and read options. Wentz can do read option. That was a big part of the offense when they went to the SB and Wentz was playing like MVP.

I think wentz will go to Indy. He had a connection with Frank Reich when he was Philly's OC. Reich may have been the guy most responsible for that Eagles Super Bowl.

I think he’s stuck in Philadelphia for 2021. But they can release him for 2022 and Roethlisberger is a FA after 2021 and might just retire after that season. I’d be interested at that point.

Stafford can still play. He is the only good part of that team.

Oh no doubt there Sarge. But that injury last year is degenerative and he was dealing with in it 2018. Some also say he was shut down last year because not only his back fractures, but he also had a co-morbid hip issue too. Too much risk for 32 y/o.

As someone who lives in Philly. No.

1. He can’t stay healthy
2. Too much $$$ now I don’t know how that all works but dude is being paid
3. I’ve thought about it, if not for the above two.

If we are going to take a somewhat unknown I’d go for the jets qb

Steelers should inquire on Darnold when the Jets draft Trevor. Get Darnold away from the stench of Adam Gase and maybe he can develop like Tannehill did.

I think this is not only possible, but highly likely. How can you evaluate a QB in that situation? If we insist on picking up a failed QB from another team, THIS is absolutely the play

Darnold is looking just fine against a good Rams defense today. 20/26 for a buck-99 in the third quarter with a TD and no picks.

I would look at mariota. I think Wentz can reset his career, but his contract is not friendly. Stafford would not be a bad choice. Unfortunately i don't see the Steelers getting a high quality backup

I imagine a lot of teams are going to be interested in Darnold as a reclamation project.

He'll probably end up retrieving a 2nd rounder. Not sure I'd do that.

Darnold is a UFA in 2022. The Jets will either cut him in favor of a rookie QB next year or he'll be a free agent in 2022. I wouldn't trade anything of value for him.

If I could write this in 72 inch font - it wouldn't be big enough to show my agreement w/ this comment...

What are the actual odds of getting a franchise QB in the draft. Getting hit by lightning and struck by a vehicle at the same time ?. I would rather the Steelers pick up a solid veteran if one comes available.

I like Wentz, but not his contract. I wouldn't take him for 2 years. Winston yes. Mariota, I'd consider.

Don't want Darnald.

If draftniks are right and Trask is there, you take him.... though he likely shoots up the draft board after the college season...

If not and they replace Fitchner after the season with Canada, you let Canada make the call on who he thinks he can fix...
