By: G.Stryker Patrick Peterson wants out of Arizona. *The Steelers need another lock down cornerback. *Perfect match? If heaven had a face, to me, it would be Patrick Peterson….in a Steeler jersey! So Steeler fans are starting to talk about the numbers: *Stryker, can we afford him? Do we have to cut Le’Veon Bell? *Will […]

Sometimes the Steelers way is an impediment

Here is the thing, would our Def scheme allow him to play to his abilities? Or we going to have him matched up 10 yards deep

Good article Cope. While it’s highly unlikely it will ever happen, it does seem so logical. One question, since it wasn’t included in your compensation theory. No doubt a 1st rounder will be needed, but what about the swapped round picks scenario? For example a 2nd is given in addition to the 1st, and Pitt receives P2 and a 4th rounder.

Very good article G.. Thanks again. I know there is never a guarantee on any player but I bet this guy Definately upgrades this "D". The only possible hold back is if coache's decide to round peg square hole syndrone him. TIME will tell and first off the trade needs to happen then take it from there.

Cope, nice job! And you were sober when you wrote it to. Seriously though as much as I’d like to see us snag P2 they just will not relinquish that first round pick. The closest we’ve come to ever doing that was the 2nd round pick we gave the Rams for Jerome back on draft day 1995 I believe.
P2 would be better than any player we pick next year in round 1 from where we will be picking somewhere between like 23 and 32.

Having to pay that kind of money and give up at least next years 1st round pick, I see no way in hell they even think about making this move. Other teams would but not the Steelers. That is a huge price to pay.

I wanted to touch on it, but there are too many scenarios to cover. Swapping picks, swapping players, Players + Picks. For me it's whatever it takes. Just go out and get him!

Ya, I worry about them missing out on Jarvis Jones II next April as well.

I broke down the numbers with P2. People are calling him old. He's younger than Haden. In 7 years in the league, he's made the pro bowl every year. You go out and get that guy. He is BETTER than Haden, and worth every penny.

I remember that Bettis trade. My step mom's family is all Notre Dame fans, so I knew him well in college. Psyched to get him. The trade was Bettis and a 3rd rounder for that year's 2nd rounder and the following year's 4th rounder.

Steelers acquired a HOF player for a 2nd and a 4th! This is the same instance. Go out and get a potential HOFer with a 1st and a player, or 2 draft picks, I don't care, HOF talent doesn't grow on trees, and isn't available often.

I think you failed to read the article. I clearly broke down how much P2 costs, and how he already easily fits under our cap without any restructuring.

I hope it happens but just do see Steelers making that big of move. They gotta realize their franchise QB has just a few short years left. Should through everything we have at getting another championship. Peterson would be a huge step in the right direction

Not at all. I think they can do it but I don't think they will. I just can't see them paying that kind of money and giving up at least a No. 1 pick next year. They have never done that as far as I know. Either way, Bryant McFadden, former Steeler CB and Petersen's cousin, said the Steelers currently aren't pursuing him.

I keep hearing / reading that from the PG media. Just because you've never done something, doesn't mean you shouldn't. They NEED to pull the trigger and sign PP ASAP. It would instantly make us better.

The key is Arizona. Just like Cope said. We can do squat if they don't want to trade P2.

Thanks Cope for getting me all hard for nothing!!!

Remember when SF added Deion and it lead to a Super Bowl win? Remember when Dallas did the same?

But don't forget PP would be playing in our crap D schemes. Butler's playbook is out for the 90's.

And this is the argument, because the money is the same:

Would you rather have Bell or Peterson moving forward?

I know who I want!

I would MUCH rather have the "POTENTIAL" HOFer than the current HOFer sitting at home being a HOFer rapper.

Cope you're totally right to be going out and making it happen because you are looking championship with him. The cost is minimal as you look at what you get VS what you might get with that 1st rounder.

The organizations biggest strength and weakness is patience and conservatism. A first and a second in 19 isn't worth as much as Peterson for three years at an average of 9 mil a year at 28 years old not where the Steelers pick. Even if they drafted late with the utmost effectiveness in the latter first and second rounds like say Heyward and Decastro, Peterson is still worth more for one reason and that's the windows of Ben, Brown, and the line.....in 3 years they are breaking down or done. Rooney needs to stop being a conservative *****
