They kept Johnson and Nix. Now obviously one is gone when Bell comes back, but in a league where the fullback is disappearing why do they have two? Can one play tailback in a pinch? If Williams was hurt you can't possibly think Archer can play.

One has been playing multiple positions and the other has been a standout on STs.

I don't think it is a lock he is gone when two return.

I think they keep whoever they think is best at STs come that moment.......

Johnson will be the back up running back to Williams while Bell serves his suspension.

Johnson is a versatile player who can lineup as a fullback or step in as a tight end. Good speed and above average hands, but they rarely use him. Nix doesn't offer much as a receiver, but is a better blocker and good on special teams. Ten years ago you can find a spot for both of these guys on your team, this year, I don't think it's the best use of a roster spot to keep both. However, given the lack of quality depth anywhere on this team, I would rather keep a good player than a position.

Kind of hard to see Johnson as a viable option at Tailback. They had kind of a big need last January and he wasn't an option then.

yeah I don't buy that either...

two games and the depth at RB will look better...

although I still feel Archer needs to be replaced with a true RB....

In an effort to get third round pick Tri Archer into the open field the Steelers have decided to go with the "Wing Tee" formation with two fullbacks escorting the diminutive RB into a position where he can unleash hell on unsuspecting defenses.

No ? Well then I got nothin' !

Because even though Johnson listed position is FB he has played more TE. He will be the third TE on gamedays. James will probably not get a hat on Sunday's and Nix will because he is the better special team player. This may change when Bell comes off suspension.

The initial roster and the claims since point to a team scrambling for depth due to lack of free agent moves and poor drafts.

I'd take Grant or Chick over an extra FB.

I'd take Grant over Vick, L Jones, Archer, Murphy, Hubbard, Lyons, and probably a couple other scrubs. What the hell are we doing cutting a 4th round pick for an undrafted, raw, low motor 5th DE?

Our talent evaluation in drafting and roster building simply blows.

When I look at the waiver wire and not only do we release the highest drafted player, but I can instantly see an upgrade at every position from what we have laying around in other teams scrap piles there is a HUGE problem.

Good thing they gave Tombert an extension cause they are filling the cupboards soooo full 4th round picks can't even crack this talented and deep roster...suck

Many here wanted Ball. 2nd round pick released by Denver. I am thinking Dallas or Buffalo

In Tomlin world this makes perfect sense. Keep two FB's to cover the midget RB/WR on the roster. No one will ever be able to figure it out! What trickery.....just in time to face Belichick, the scheming, cunning and caniving coach. OH, Mr. Tomlin, you are really showing us your cleverness on this move!
