The Steelers seldom draft punters, so I agree with Ford that the odds are they won't. This doesn't change the fact that Berry is rated at the bottom in many areas of punting, and Dickson according to scouts who do this for a living is the best punting prospect in years. We could have Dickson for much cheaper as well. A 5th round contract for 5 years vs. 1.9 Million a year for Berry. You do the math, we'll save a good amount on the cap and have a better player. This is why I'm for it.

From what the Steelers have been doing in terms of visits, dinners, and pro days these are the positions the Steelers want to address. ILB, S, and WR. To a lesser extent QB, RB, DL, and CB.

In my opinion the Steelers are happy with Jordan Berry. So I feel the very earliest they’d draft a punter is round 7. If they got their top 3 needs round 1-3 then filled maybe what they believe could be need positions in RB and NT. Then and only then and only if a punter like Dickson was around in the 7th.

That’s my thoughts.

Edit: maybe Johnny Townsend if he was there.

Harrison isn't fast, more of an in the box deluxe run defender type. More of a round two kind of talent, I think. This link said he ran a 4.63 at his pro day. TOO SLOW for a safety

Jewel ran a 4.82 at the combine. Same speed as Tyler Matakevich, actually Matakevich ran a 4.81 at the combine. This to me says two-down linebacker, not worth a 2nd round pick.

Neither picks 1 or 2 fit with the modern passing NFL.


Settle would be a solid choice in round three, but I like Phillips, and Payne better. Settle wasn't very active regarding tackles and only had one year where he got a sack.

Like you said, much depends if they get their needs early. The odds are they won't draft a punter, as they seldom do.

Then again, Colbert spent a 6th round pick on a long snapper in 2017, and another 6th to acquire Josh Scobee, a kicker.

I think this draft has better punter's than Berry, and, making 1.9 million a year, we'd save a lot on the cap. Rookie 5th round pick for 4-5 years vs. 1.9 million a year. You can do the math, but I'll stand on the above points.

Berry had greater accolades at LSU than Dickson in college, I don't see All-Pro in Berry at all. Just a good punter who does what the Special Teams Coord asks him to do.
