Cut by the Raiders from what I can tell mostly because he is an edge rusher and they needed a 4-3 contain guy. Now to me it really comes down to if there is roster room or not. Essentially in my mind this is a Harrison to Pats* situation. He has a very limited skill set to help you, but when you are talking about third and long pressure. Man that is pretty big. However, someone needs to be dumped for Bell when he returns. Likely a back. I'd imagine you would have to lose an inside backer for Irvin. and some of those guys are key SP. Teams. This has Pats* written all over it. Bet he is there by next weekend.

We have no need as he’s a lot like Dupree. Always thinks he can use his speed. But, yes, Pats has to be the favorites at this point.

I'd rather wait to see what Ola can do when he is eligible to return

He was a beast in college but never really translated to the NFL. Irvin is much like Randy Gregory out of Nebraska a few years later, I think he went to Dallas. Tall lanky with a lot of speed at 260 but very easy to run at. Irvin is built to be a 3rd down pass rusher only. Loved Irvin in college though, he was a model athlete who got a second chance after a bad start to adulthood and made the most of it.

is OLA on IR or a fake injury so he cant be scooped of PS

I agree with Bermuda, I think Irvin has much more upside than chickallo. I'd rather go with Irvin.

but there is a major difference. Irvin has been more successful. Irvin had 8 sacks last year and has 3 this year. Dupree’s career best was 6 last year. Dupree has 3.5 now and is showing life but Irvin has been better as a pass rusher.

Even if they are exactly the same, that’s still good. Pass rush being fresh is the most important factor. In the 4th quarter, a fresh Irvin is a better rusher than a fatigued Von Miller.

Irvin just being in a rotation could pay huge dividends so the steelers always have 2 fresh ruhers out there.

they should absolutely try to get him.

here's a good question - bruce irvin or anthony chickallo???

I know who i'd pick...

first ballot hall of famer mr gold jacket anthony chickillo

Ola is on IR, so he is technically subrostered. He can be made active at any time since we've just passed 8 games. I think the Steelers are keeping him there so he's not subjected to the PS like you mentioned, and if an injury happens, he's up.

Irvin gives more help this year than Chickallo who is ok as a 4th OLB backup but he is what he is at this point. Irvin puts a lot more speed on the field and they both stink against the run.

Irvin would be a good 15 or so snaps a game pass rush specialist.

It would require Rooney to cut a check for a signing bonus; they don't like doing that.

Could be a great steal at vet minimum. Would look great in black and gold

I thought I read he is officially released on Monday(today). Does he go through the waiver wire process or is he an automatic URFA?

He would have to go through waivers and if you claim him on waivers, you have to pay his current contract. If he passes waivers then he’s a free agent and can sign for whatever.

I’m not sure of his contract. Steelers could have room because of all the money Bell has left on the table by not showing up.

Steeler's currently are at about $7.7M in Bell savings.

Irvin cleared waivers. He’s a free agent now. I’d guess he will want to go to a 3-4 team because that’s his best fit. He played at West Virginia.

Maybe he would sign cheap to play for the steelers. He’d have half a season to audition for a full time gig.
