BREAKING – The Steelers select LB Buddy Johnson

why not Toney

cam mcgrone quicker and played next to bush

looks good

least favorite of the picks so far 6-0 255-230 ish runs 4.6 always a step behind in the passing game… well one thing he should fit right in lol

I would have gone with one of the nickel CB's. That is our biggest area of need right now and the CB from Ohio State (rated 2nd or 3rd best player remaining) was sitting there. Maybe Wildgoose or Shemar Jean-Charles from Appalachain State will slide to us in the 6th since we don't have a 5th round pick.

With Vince and Spillane, I don't quite understand this pick. I suppose both are here on short contracts and are looking to development someone to play next to Bush.

Meh. At least he'll can always call him Buddy.. A 2 down type who short with short arms, light, and according to the reports Ill equipped for the pass. From the looks of it will make a living on specials team. Hardly what you want in 4th round pick.

We have officially gone from Bud to Buddy

And if used properly we can not miss a beat..............................

Salute the nation

Yeah, seems to me a player like Buddy would have been a decent 4th round pick in 1991 or even 2001, but not here in 2021.

Buddy Johnson is smallish for an ILBer (6'1", 228 lbs.), but is very productive, quick, has some elite athletic numbers (4.57 40, 38.5" vertical, 4.07 shuttle, 10'8" broad jump). Past two seasons, 165 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 4 passes defensed, 3 forced fumbles.

In terms of pure physical skills, Johnson's closest comparison in the draft seems to be a guy similar in size (6'2', 222 lbs.), similar vertical (36.5"), shuttle (4.15), and broad jump (10'4"), as well as similar productivity in college (past two seasons, 142 tackles, 23.5 for loss, 7 sacks, 7 passes defensed, 5 forced fumbles). That player is Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
