The Jacksonville Jaguars benched quarterback Blake Bortles in favor of Cody Kessler on Monday.

The move came hours after the team also made a change at offensive coordinator, firing Nathaniel Hackett.

Bortles passed for just 127 yards during Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Jaguars' seventh straight defeat. The week before, Bortles posted a season low with 104 yards passing during a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers; the Jaguars blew a 16-point lead in that game.

Bortles signed a three-year extension last offseason but has struggled in 2018, throwing 13 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions. Bortles, who was benched in a game against the Houston Texans last month, is completing 60.4 percent of his passes, but his 6.97 yards per attempt ranks 29th in the NFL.

That team could be dangerous with a real quarterback

Still surprised at their meltdown. So odd to see a drastic change from one year to the other.

Kinda confused how you bench your QB AND fire the OC. If the QB is useless and everybody knows it, wtf is the OC supposed to do?

They were missing Fournette for a lot of games and he was ejected from the Bills game.

You mean, what is the OC to do? I agree! I think he was the fall guy. Marrone benched Bortles earlier in the season, then reinserted him. Now it’s Hackett’s fault? smh

Fournette ran across the field and engaged / struck an opposing player when a fight broke out durring the third quarter. The NFL looked at tape and suspended him for one game, no pay, this week. He has three Buisness days to appeal. Both him and a BILLS player got ejected from the game. NO NFL discipline has yet to happen to the Bills player.

I would imagine that that suspension isn't getting overturned.

Yes exactly! My bad, edited the original post.

That team is clearly a top 5 team with a real QB. They will regret firing that OC, I think

I highly doubt it gets overturned. The probable reason the BILL's player never got suspended is he didn't cross the field. He was involved at the original location and got ejected. The article also went on to say that BOTH players were being escorted off field through the LONE tunnel to field. They were jaw-jacking but a "FAN" actually made contact with Fournette. He was in process of confronting fan when a POLICE officer interrupted it. The fan should be reprimanded for the contact, maybe loss of seat or something as they don't have the right to do that. Fournette said he can take the "talk" but the contact was crossing the line and I happen to agree with him on that.
