With Bortles struggling in Jacksonville (most of the players are in that **** system) I wonder what it would take to pull off another draft day trade for him like we did for Bettis. Obviously the Steelers are looking for a QB to replace Ben as soon as next year if Ben Decides to hang up the cleats. Coughlin and new OC Nate Hacket are going to be looking for a QB in this year's draft to fit his style of offense. TMC could answer what draft picks we would have to give up to get him. Would the Steelers need to honor his $18m contract if a trade happened?

I really feel that with the Steelers coaching staff, better OL, and the skill players surrounding him, Bortles could really make a resurgence to his old self.

Is this were 3 years from now I way look into it. He would want to start soon. Teams like the Browns and Jets should be calling Jax about him.

The Jaguars have not picked up his 5th year option yet, might not. His cap hit for 2017 is $3.23M. He is in the final year of his deal. I would think, at least, takes a Top 100 pick to get him.

Super crazy. Was just thinking the same thing this morning. I'd be game, but not at the $18mil obviously. It's unlikely since he's got this this year to play out. If he sucks, maybe he's just not that good and not worth signing. If he's competent, maybe he hits the open market looking for starter money. If he plays well, then they keep him. I like the idea, I just don't see a way we get him other than a trade.

If I liked his tape and knew what had to be corrected I'd much rather spend a 3rd on Bortels than a 1st on Kizer.

I would rather wait and see if he could be had in free agency for all that matters.

What am I missing here? He's never cracked 60% completion percentage, never thrown less than 16 INTs in his three seasons, and actually threw 12 less TDs last year than the year before, so he's not really getting better. Plus the past couple years he's had great receivers. I refuse to believe this is all purely a product of the team around him not being good enough. I'm not buying this at all. I do not see him as a potential Ben successor at all whatsoever. I'd trade no more than a 6th or 7th for him, and that would be to contend with Landry and Zach. I'd rather take my chances with Kizer or hope we can pull off a trade up for Darnold next year

I'd gladly trade our 4th for him, would consider our second 3rd.

He wouldn't start in Pitt for years, so we wouldn't trade for him.

I'm not sure if this works financially. In essence this is a 1 year trade. Bortles would want to get paid in 2018 and I don't think it helps in the Ben situation. I wouldn't want to give up any top 100 pick in this year's draft for a 1 year fill in, that we probably won't be able to keep in 2018. Mostly because it wouldn't make financial sense to pay 2 QBs when only one can play at a time. Draft a QB and don't waste a pick IMHO.

Bortles looks the part physically, but the guy isn't very good. His accuracy is my biggest concern and I'm not sure how much better that gets at this point.

He is in Jacksonville. It's Cleveland South. It's where players go to suffer and die in inept and incompetent systems rigged for failure.

Name a couple of QBs who've come out of Cleveland / Jacksonville and went on to PRODUCTIVE L-O-N-G careers ??? Maybe I'm just missing something but I think Bortles has reached near peak.

Salute the nation

Just because you can find excuses for him sucking doesn't mean he doesn't still suck

A-freaking-men. Can't believe this is even a discussed topic, honestly.

Bortles is better than ANYONE we have backing up Ben right now. Our new Charlie Batch. Go get him...

no way he'd be okay with being a "backup" from here on out, he's still way too young, he's not gonna submit to losing market value like that so soon. plus, he sucks, not worth the effort, even as a backup, just IMO

Dammit. I was kinda hoping that would do it.
