Doesn't exactly sound like the Jags will be rushing to the ATM to get him a new contract. He has one more year and unless he makes a steep incline in play he will be done. I know he hasn't looked good. However, that organization is God forsaken particularly since the new ownership group took over. I've always believed he has Roethlisberger like skillset. Maybe he wouldn't mind playing for a winner behind a HOF for a couple years with an escalating salary grid. Or maybe he can slink off to Cleveland or some other **** hole franchise and have his whole career go down the toilet.

I thought Bortles had a ton of potential coming into the NFL, but I wonder if he is damaged good at this point. While he has the tools to be a top quarterback, his completion percentage is low and his interceptions are high. That is with some decent offensive weapons in Jacksonville. I'm guessing they have a bad offensive line and that he's developed happy feet. Maybe he can recover with a good organization that surrounds him with enough talent, but maybe it's too late. Doubt he'd accept backup money anyway.

I'd be interested to see how he would develop under Haley. Agree with the above comment that the tools and potential are there, but 51 picks over almost three seasons has got to be the most in the league (if not, it's damn close). Stating the obvious here, but the Steelers don't have a backup QB capable of winning them a game at this point, and given the fact that you can pretty much count on Roethlisberger missing at least one game throughout the course of a season, Colbert & friends would be wise to evaluate all options this offseason, including Bortles if the opportunity presents itself.

I say yes. I always believed that the best backup is a veteran who had a starting job for a decent amount of time. Whether he wasn't great or not. See Charlie Batch. Plus, great frame. I would not give up on him if I'm the Jags.

Pass..............

Intercepted!!

/s Blake Bortles

Kidding aside, the guy had a very promising season last year: 4428 yards, 35 TD's, and he would be just 25 next season.

He was good last year, not sure what the drop off is about. Same thing happened to whats him name from Tampa . . .speaking of Tampa, Glennon would be a nice pick up to groom as Bens replacement if he willing to be a backup for a couple of years.

cheap vet? sure, bring him in

Three ways to get a QB. First round and hope. Second or lower and really hope. Someone's cast off and hope. Now depending upon the organization it might be less hope required. The Jags are ***. Outside of Cleveland there is no one more pathetic. He didn't get top flight coaching at Florida International and he sure as he'll isn't in Jax.

Sign him and dump Landry...I'm all for it!!!

His OL is trash, his WR's can't stay healthy, and their big FA TE has missed more games than he has played in for the Jags. It's not ALL his fault, the Jags are just not a very good team

must suck *** for Beachum from going to a winning team to that dumpster. I don't blame him for leaving as Villanueva was a cheaper, younger option but damn, he must be missing the Steelers

The guy has no RB, and his receivers disappeared this year. Also their line sucks. He doesn't have much to work with.

He played at UCF under George O'Leary, not at Florida International. You never can tell with these qbs who get stuck on awful teams. Steve Young looked like a bust at Tampa. Bill Walsh gets him, and he becomes Superman. I would guess that there are some guys who wash out of the league after being with bad teams that would have been very good had they landed in a better situation. Joe Flacco might be out of the league if he had gone to Tampa, but by landing in Baltimore, he'll have a 15 year career. One thing I've noticed is that guys who fail as high draft picks don't seem to latch on as career backups at a very high rate. Most backups are guys who were later draft picks. The league is full of Jim Sorgi types, while Brady Quinn, and Matt Leinart are out of the league. It's hard to believe that Matt Leinart isn't at least as good as Landry Jones.
