Interesting segment by Bryant Gumbel in his interview with Tomlin. Also had some interesting stuff from Larry Foote and Ray Horton. A quote from Larry Foote, “As a young coach in this league,” said Foote, who’s 40, “you’re going to hurt young coaches of color — just our drive and passion, because we know we topped off. We know we’re not going to have a legitimate shot. And when you know that, you don't do your best.”

IMO, if that is how you operate or that is the type of character you have, you probably shouldn't be coaching at all.

Does Bryant Gumbel do anything sports related without bringing race into it?

Yeah, Larry is right. I doubt I'll ever get to be the President of finance at the university I work for, why should I do the best I can at it? Oh yeah, cause I have integrity and get paid to do it. Man, some of these coaches/players are soooo out of touch with reality.

What really confuses me is the retread coaches who fail as head coach with one team and then get hired and fail with another. This is where there can be more opportunities given to other candidates and not just the same group of coaches every year.

What retread coaches? I don't think there was a single retread hired in 2021.

Maybe not this season, but there typically are retread coaches hired. This season there were a lot of brand new head coaches with no previous NFL head coaching experience.

Don't know what difference it makes what color your coach is? I think someone is just hard up for some notoriety

It doesn't have to be retread head coaches, but how about retread coordinators? A coordinator position is a stepping stone to a head coaching job and we see subpar coordinators get fired and then hired in every cycle.

I don’t give a damn what race my head coach happens to be. What I do not want is a head coach who is hired primarily based on his race rather than his credentials. That to me its insulting to the head coach and reeks of phony from the organization.
If I’m the owner of xyz football team and I hire let’s say Eric Bienemy as my HC, I should be hiring Eric based on his credentials and not because he’s black. That’s insulting to Eric and says all your good work took a backseat to your race. That’s just not right.
All candidates I would hope in the year 2021 would all be judged on their merit and not the color of their skin. I would hope we’ve evolved as a society to not let the color of someone’s skin enter into the evaluation process.
