Dan McCullers working with the 1's. Hargrave with the backup DL. That's...odd. #Steelers

I think what this does is light a fire under Hargrave and Frazier. Let's them know there is legit competition to be had. Not that I buy into him taking Hargrave's job.

But there is such of a thing as late bloomers in the NFL. As the odds might be stacked against Big Dan, but that doesn't make it mission impossible Ethan. Maybe the "light" came on and with his big frame, run defense will binocular in for a closer look. Perhaps he gets more playing time this year as a result.

In the very least it looks like his locker spot is looking more secure.

A big dud? perhaps no more.

When Big Dan first came to the STEELERS he looked fairly good. He was pushing people back into the pocket and I though Oh Yea, we may have something here. Then he just regressed and to the point of "why the hell is he on this team" status. Maybe as slash says, he has "late bloomed" and seeing how this is AMERICA, anything is possible. I'm all for him if he is actually tasking that next step UP. We need all we can get in that group / run /defense as [possible and if this lites the fire then I'm all for the burn.

Salute the nation

Kinda want to believe McCullers is a victim of his own size, and is a gentle giant. He's likely been the biggest guy in the room for as long as he can recall and as such "turned it down" so he wouldn't risk hurting people. So if the proverbial light came on and he's aware that he won't hurt anyone and can give his all, then hopefully it stays on. Though after watching him at Tennessee and with the Steelers, it's still a long shot by a country mile.

Not a fan. Thought he should have been cut last year. He did make probably his best play as a Steeler last Thursday chasing down a play.

Tomlin said it was a normal procedure to rotate guys in with the number 1s. I hope we cut the stiff, he is lazy and underachieving for 4 years and now is playing for his football life.

Perhaps the new DL Coach has figured out the proper way to motivate and coach him? If so, I'm all for it!

What's up with Frazier, did he even play in the first pre-season game?

I find Big Dan a little lazy and lacking fire.

Big boy too soft. I'll believe it when I see it---consistently

I think I remember them pointing out that McCullers was chasing someone down in the first game... good to see that much effort from him.

I'm pulling for the guy, but from what I've seen I think Big Snack could still play better today.

Looks good, like he trimmed a few pounds. Never thought he was as bad as everyone around here was saying before, anyway.

Like Supe said, he's a gentle giant.
He has the size and intangibles to be serviceable and possibly dominant at his position if the mind set is right

Size isn´t everything, but of course it helps when you´re playing nose tackle. BUT: Remember Chris Hoke? Smaller guy (compared to big snack), but played with heart and passion. I prefer having a smaller guy with that than a big guy who´s easily overwhelmed. Still rooting for Big Dan to make it, would be a nice story.

Joel Steed was similar as well.

It’s **** or get off the pot time for dan... but and it’s a big but, if big dan can get penetration consistently it’s really opens up rush lanes for everyone and we have a whole lot of everyone else we have 4 guys that can really bring the rush... good pass rush is kind of like dominoes falling penetrate the middle everything else falls apart for the qb.
