Did anyone go to training camp this year? Blitz family goes every year. we went 3 times this year including Friday Night Lights. Looking back Ben didn't practice at FNL and the other 2 times we wen he played sparely. I am wondering if he had this elbow issue the entire time and just tried to work through it. I get why if so but if he had surgery early on, he could be back sometime this year.

not sure on the time frame of recovery but I'm sure the team doctors guided him properly. If he was playing through it they must have thought it wasn't as serious as it turned out to be. My self, I don't look back at what could have been but usually look forward to how this will be.

Good question BLITZ but I'm afraid no one can answer it with certainty.

I dunno...what kinda injury you thinking? The symptoms smack of UCL reconstruction but the team said it isn't that. My son had TJ in HS so maybe I am just biased but that is an injury that someone could try to play through the pain. I really am struggling to think it wasn't TJ, but I'm not a doc so I really don't know **** outside of what I saw first hand.

I just attributed him not playing much to him being a vet. and the Steelers trying to work out QB depth chart. But if you go back and rewatch the Pats game as I so painfully did, Ben had zero zip on the ball week 1. we all know what happened week 2.

Ben has a pretty normal schedule at camp. He has a half day, full day, off day. Then mix in a few more off days.

Rule of thumb with Ben since I've been tracking injuries for 4 years:

If he takes Wednesday off, he's nursing an injury.

I would wager he tried to play through it. An injury like this doesn't just creep up on you. This happens over a prolonged period of time until it finally rips. We just want to see him go out on better terms than this.

depends on the injury. I have seen a few UCL tears happen to pitchers...seems that while there is usage damage happening over time, there are no outward symptoms. Just a pop when it tears. When it happened to my son, he wanted to try to throw through it. But, team said it wasn't UCL reconstruction (TJ) so who knows.

Ben was a full participant since the first OTAs all the way through minicamp and to t-camp in Latrobe. First time in several years he did that. I think Cope is spot on when he had his weekly “day off”. He’s had various nicks and bruises covered up by “birth certificate” circumstances most coaches use to sit out a vet player. I thought he had a sore knee or ankle this past t-camp.

Ben was available and in uniform, but he was on the sidelines more than anytime I can recall. again, I just chalked it up to him being a vet, and us trying to find out what we had with MR and Dobbs. looking back now, I think his elbow was an issue for along time. rewatch week 1 he had zero zip on the ball.

He has nursed so many injuries before he probably felt it was minor and would heal on its own. Perhaps the Steelers thought the same. They should do like the cheats on the aspect that they list everyone and their mother on the injury report. PS **** the cheatriots.

Elbow tendinitis sucks. I’m dealing with it now (my eyesight is fine guys)....lol. I agree;Ben probably thought he could tough it out like usual. It’s the way it goes I guess.

The hard truth about tendons and ligaments is they often do not heal on their own. If the tear is significant enough the choice is to get surgery right away or wait till it fully tears. Exact same thing happened with buddies kids ACL. Partially torn last year. They wouldn't do surgery until it was a complete tear. Seamed healed moved the wrong way and pop.
