That's because many of those players are extremely talented if troubled. They can be gotten on the cheap. And for a guy like Adam Jones, giving him chances where nobody else will buys you some loyalty in a weird way.
The issue is, when you continually add bad character to your team, the good character quotient starts to drop. You have guys who work their ***** off, try to do the right thing the right way, but get sick of the endless rhetoric about the guys like Burfict and Jones who are continually dragging the image of the team down.
Then you look at a guy like Dalton. He's not bad. He's just struggling right now. Green and Eiffert have been trading off on injury status leaving him with patchwork "guess who" receivers. He can't build a rapport with new guys until he's had a chance to work with them for some time. He's got a **** line. His coord is doing the infamous "run by committee" plan and no one running back can get into a groove. The whole thing is a ******* clown car of disorganization.
We really don't appreciate the talent the Steelers have in Roethlisberger and the strides Haley has made with him. Because Ben has learned to be more judicious with his throws and because he is willing to take a dump off now and then the line can trust that if they do their job, **** will work out. It used to be - "Well ****, we don't know WHERE he's going to be or WHAT he's going to do." All they knew was that Ben was going to hold on to the ******* ball for as long as he possibly could and that they had to somehow try to hold their blocks for 5 or 6 seconds at minimum BEFORE looking around to see where the scramble drill had lead Ben to so they could try to peel somebody off that was about to kill him from a blindside.
There probably aren't 5 QBs who could have survived behind the line the Steelers had 4 or 5 years ago with the way Ben played. Haley has done a great deal along with Munch to improve Ben and the line. And we fans are beginning to see the rewards. The Bengals? Well they don't have Ben, and they don't have Haley and they certainly don't have Munch.
