Interesting comments from issues I heard about years ago with the younger members of the team...

Ben Roethlisberger has been wanting more urgency, exactness from teammates for weeks now. He asked Mike Tomlin this week to help demand it.

As told to me, Ben Roethlisberger had lengthy heart-to-heart w/ Mike Tomlin. QB wants greater seriousness of purpose from younger Steelers.

On one hand, Ben needs more exactness on the road as his home-road splits are awful. Also, this is twice now he's gone public with issues (tough practices lead to injuries, young players need to be better). Anyway, you would hope that this will lead to some positive developments, particularly with some of the receivers. I would assume a guys like Rogers and Coates are two of the players he is referring to.

To me it at least shows that he wants to win. So I have to like it from that standpoint.

It is going to fall on deaf ears unless Ben starts playing better. Last time they went to a SB a lot of these young guys were still in high school. Ancient history to them. It is a what have you done for me lately league, so I could see these guys raising heir eyebrows at Ben, especially in light of poorly he has played recently.

Something needs to happen and if that means your QB calling you out, then that is what it is. What I QUESTION is why hasn't the COACH called for more URGANCY ???? Is it because he's a "player's coach" ???

This has been the problem for years. Oh, to go back to the days when Cowher looked like he was ready to have a stroke!

With my own 2 eyes, watched Tomlin engaged, yelling, demanding perfection from everybody during Bal practice week. And then .... Just Sayin'

Crazy talk
[Knock on the door to Tomlin's office]

*Tomlin in the mirror trying on different shades*

"Um coach the practice is about to start"

Tomlin: "Can't you see I'm busy?? They can wait. Close the door.... wait how does these look??"

As long as he demands it from HIMSELF. FFS.

Leaders lead. Walk with the talk Ben. Let's get a W today

This team blows. He should ask for a sabbatical and save his body till next season.

Does he demand the same perfection from film study, something the media doesn't watch?

What? I'm sure he doesn't worry about stuff like this...He has more important things to worry about. You know like what color shades to wear on Sunday....Right?

Why the **** should Ben have to go Tomlin with that, that should be something our great coach should be able to see himself. Hell just let Ben be coach, at least he cares.

Ben needs to call a team meeting this week. No coaches. They must win all 4 remaining division games and one more in order to hope and win the division and make the playoffs. No way they get in as a wildcard. Too many teams with 2 or 3 games in hand on them.

I think he's closer to a "permanent sabbatical" than we realize.

When you take into account several things, I wouldn't be surprised if he retires after the season: Heath Miller's retirement, BR's body language in yesterday's game and his comments afterward, the knee injury, his injury history overall, the recent comment he made that "you can't replace a brain," etc. I think he's tired of the grind.

Just a hunch.

A little off topic but since we're talking about Ben.....let's say the Steelers don't turn things around this year and finish in bottom half of the league. Do they think about drafting a QB in the first round knowing they may not get a pick that high in the near future? I still think we are a year or two out from picking Ben's successor but what would you do?

Not unless they know he is retiring after next season, IMO.

I wouldn't say next season. Ideally, they will draft someone when Ben has 1 to 2 years left. But, if they get a good pick and a good QB is sitting there, do you take that leap when Ben still has closer to 3 to 4 years left.

You know a lot is wrong if Ben is publicly talking about the team as well as James Harrison had a few choice words for the defense.

To me, it's a cry for help that the head coach ain't getting it done. Ben is sick of the lack of legit coaching. He knows his legacy, and chance of winning another ring, are being impacted by Cool Shades ineptness.
