In the Tomlin Way, we saw Dobbs try to execute whatever the offense was that we drew up for Ben. It was a disaster. A lot of coaches would have done things differently. Like maybe taken the opportunity to run a little more against one of the worst run defenses in the league. But no. Make him throw. Have him lock on his first read and learn how hard that is. Just ******* stupid..

He was in the flow of the game so well we sat ben for 2 series.

Don't forget our RB of the future in Samuels, 11 carries for 28 yds

Samuel's is a gadget player, that's all. He will never be a full time rb.

Yep, I am a huge NC State fan but said many times he is a good athlete, a great pass receiver and a decent runner but he lacks explosion and power running inside the tackles.

Why did you leave out his pass catches? Jaysam is the least of their worries. ****** coaching and ****** defense and ****** not so special teams demand our attention. The rest is just minor in comparison. As far as Dobbs, I think Rudolph will eventually lead the sleigh. Hohoho

Samuels was a slot receiver in college. He was brought in for his diversity, elusiveness, and pass catching. Did you see his hand placement on that 5yd rocket by Ben? He's the only slot/RB we have on the roster than can make that catch. You bring him in to spread out defenses and create space mismatches vs DL and LBs dropping into zone. Dude is a weapon, and he's just getting started.

And to me this points to not putting your players in the best position to excel.
Dobbs can run so why not exploit the weak Raider run defense?

Pfffft.... That's what they would expect you to do. So you always do the opposite... they'll never see it coming.

I enjoy torturing those who say Bell was easily replaceable, where are they now?

Well, if by easily replaceable you mean we had a guy on the roster who averaged more per carry, per catch and more TDs in a season than Bell - Here I am.

The odds that Bell would be available at this point in the season had he played all year historically would suggest a backup would have been running in this game anyway.

Sorry man, the one thing this season HAS proven is that Bell is not all that and a bag of chips. It's hardly Conner's fault the coaches have completely gotten away from any semblance of a running game.

When we only carry 2 QB on the active roster and your starter might be out for the game, having your only other QB running around is sort of like playing Russian roulette. If anything, my question would be with the play calling once Dobbs was in the game.

The thing is the throws Dobbs had to make weren't hard, JuJu ran an out, AB crossing, but he was late on all his throws, I couldn't tell but the INT looked like it hit AB right in the numbers but he didn't catch it.

You are COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT

It wasn't about one or the other

WE COULD HAVE HAD BOTH!

holy **** how many times do I have to say this?

Steelers put all their eggs in one cheap basket and it fell apart, end of story

We do have both now, no Bell AND a ****** defense. MAYBE next year the savings can be spent on varsity players for the D

They missed the boat on the Bell situation for sure. From not identifying that he wasn't going to show, to not bringing in a better backup than Ridley.

Sorry Spike, I'm not on this bandwagon.

The Steelers offered to make Bell the highest paid RB in the league for 2 years in a row. Not accepting those offers is on Bell, not the FO.

I don't think the Steelers screwed up their negotiations with Bell. They offered him a fair price in my opinion and he turned it down. He was greedy and selfish, and on top of that, he led the team on making them believe he'd report and play all season.

The biggest mistake they made was having inadequate depth at the position

I see your point. I would have expected some simple roll-outs by Dobbs and safe passes. Of course I forgot, he was in the flow of the game and his back-up Ben was on the sideline watching.

Very true. But the communication level with Colbert sucked. They failed to identify the Bell situation correctly. And then failed to bring in a backup to split carries with a physical RB in Conner. A 1 -2 punch that teams have not only showed can be successful, but with Conner they shouldn't have had a lot of faith that he could make it through a season.

This also can be said to a certain degree at WR and S. Failure to identify short comings.

I think this is Colbert's worse year to date. Factoring everything in.

And because they let it be known Tomlin splits the decision making process, deserves half of the blame too.

It was impossible to evaluate the Bell situation, he said so many different things, he told his teammates he'd be there. And RBs are usually able to play right away regardless of round. Ridley is a 1000 yard back, and whose to say Bell didn't tell Tomlin or Colbert he'd be there and just stiffed them. I don't blame the FO or Tomlin for the Bell situation.

Omar Khan actually handles the contracts. Wasn't Colbert's job. I also can't completely **** on Colbert for trading for Switzer. That was an excellent acquisition.

The weird thing, is the players and coaches were in contact with Bell, right up until the Week 1 game. Then it was nothing but radio silence. Our Podcast cohost said the same thing. He was very chummy with Bell, and Bell didn't communicate with him either after week 1. Bell's team ran a misinformation campaign, after the entire team expected him to be there, because he said he would be there. Hell he was still thinking of coming back at the deadline, he was in the area, and he didn't come in. He also didn't make contact with anyone from the team during the time he was in Pittsburgh.

That is on Bell. That is on the player who only surrounded himself with people that wouldn't give him all of his options and spell it out for him. His agent is also a dick bag, and was more interested on spreading his client base, and fame using Bell as a platform.

The only thing I can fault the team for, is not tagging Bell as a nonexclusive. But the Steelers did actually want to retain him, and upped his offer from the previous season. Bell thinks he's worth more, and that's better than the Steelers being in cap hell with a diva running back. The risk/reward just wasn't there.

Yep, Bell was so all over the place throughout this whole thing, who knows what he's thinking?

I don't get how the Steelers can't seem to ever get a good performance out of a young backup quarterback. It seems like every team can bring in some scrub or some young guy and for a week or two, they light things up and look like a star. The Steelers have a guy in there and it looks like they've never seen the forward pass before.
