Don't bother with Tomlin. I've said what I'm gonna say and there are thirteen threads. Unless a blockbuster trade deal comes up (beyond unlikely) he will be the HC next year whether I like it or not.

Offense:
Fichtner: Ben's guy. He will get a pass this year. I think he is clueless and probably should be gone. But he is a package with Tomlin and Ben.
James Daniel: TE's: tough to say. The play was abysmal, but it was all linked with the QB's and the OC
Faulkner RB: See Daniel above.
Sarrett: Oline. For sure they need to improve here. This was the strength of the team. Offensive line coaches are often failed HC's and coordinators. Grab a name.
Sherman Reciever: Thanks for stepping in Ray. tough situation. Re-enjoy retirement.

Defense:
Butler: Tomlin puppet. Going no where. And no question the defense was better But jezz it really should have been. Maybe they can add a few more all pros and put it over the top.
Bradley/ Austin Db's: Keep. Beyond the talent, these guys for the most part looked well coached and they were able to teach some really good technique. PI seemed way down and plays on the ball way up.
Dunbar: Keep. Dline was very good. Loaded with talent. But Hargrave seems to have blossomed and Buggs at least saw field without being a total liability.
Olsavsky: Keep. Inside LB'ers were good. I don't know who coaches OLB's doesn't seem to be listed.
Danny Smith: Wow if this guy keeps his job, I guess that really tells you all you need to know about how Tomlin evaluates his staff.

I doubt anyone is fired. But they absolutely need a QB coach and a person in the booth during all games to review plays. That was supposed to happen this season but I believe Tomlin bailed on it.

They need a new WR coach. A Oline coach isn't far behind on the wish list, and yeah that not so special team coach can hit bricks too.

Bubblegum Danny needs to be escorted out of town by PSP to the nearest state line and told to never come back to Pennsylvania.

I would fire Sarrett next Monday and get someone in here that has some sort of coaching experience. The OL looks like they have regressed and we know why.

Ben is the OC of the offense. Whoever else is there is a figure head. We went from one of the best offenses in the league to the absolute worst offenses in the league. That tells you the coaches don't know what they are doing on offense. Running multiple RBs into the game when one is getting hot, passing 35+ times a game when you're only down a few points or leading, and changing QBs like tires on a race track all means they didn't have a clue.

I would absolutely trade Tomlin if those rumors with Washington were actually true.

Fichtner is totally safe. They are going to change OCs with Ben at the end of his career and he got a free pass with the QB situation.

Butler is safe because look at the defense this year. They also believe they were better than they actually were last year because of total yard rankings.

Smith should be gone.

I'd try to hire Ward away from the Jets to take over as WR coach.

They need to hire a full-time QB coach.

Sarrett will be safe as it was his first year as OC coach. However, it's evident that coaching under someone doesn't mean you'll bring the same things to the table. Sarrett brought a totally different style than Munchak and the new assistant OL coach looked more like an equipment guy than one who brought any contributions to the table.

I am a little gun-shy with hiring ex players as coaches. What makes you think Hines would be better than the Peezy/Lake of days past?

I don't think Lake was necessarily bad, it was just time to move on.

Porter showed nothing as a coach. No clue how he got hired.

Ward taught the young receivers when he was a veteran. He worked with the Steelers receivers as a coaching intern in 2017 and now has a year under his belt with the Jets. He's a teacher and it's something he's always done for the team. Ward is the only Steelers player in all of my years of watching them I felt would make a quality coach right out of the gate.

Ward wasn't the most physically gifted player, but he was smart and he was gritty. Guys like that tend to learn the game. Another example is Jerry O...guy was a lunch pail kinda guy whose smarts helped him. These are the type of players that tend to make better coaches. Ward also has a great off field attitude...just a personable guy. Current players would respect him and his passion for the game is clear. I'd hand him an offer before he gets to the locker room after the Jets finish next week.

It isn't that he can't develop into a top WR coach is will he with a quickness? As we have no time for him to be learning on the job. I looked at this years stats compared to last years stats and there is actually fewer yards and nothing that stands out that he made a difference. I dunno for me I prefer a more tenured WR coach.

If I were Rooney, I would sack every last one of them. Having the cast of The View as our coaching staff is the only downgrade I can think of.

Honestly, I think that they are horrible to pretty bad. Pretty bad is on a good day, when Ben can audible over the stupid calls coming in from the sidelines.

Don't know that your view of stats is relevant. Fewer yards doesn't mean much...roster turn over, QB growth, strength of schedule, focus on running over passing, etc, etc. I believe he has shown he can both teach as 448 said above, has the knowledge, player respect, and passion. Granted, there is more to coaching than just those things such as input on game planning, getting game plan to players, film sessions breakdowns, ingame adjustments etc.

Wouldn't QB growth lead to more yards not less? I dunno their corps looks pretty similar in comparison. Strength of schedule was almost identical slightly easier this year. We have young WRs..
a coach like Drake with a proven long term track record would give me more confidence..

I haven't looked at the jets nor done any stare and compare. All I am saying is that yardage stats in a vacuum between two seasons isn't a good indicator of coaching ability. I just tossed out the list as examples of other things to consider. I believe Ward could be a good coach but, of course, I have never talked with him or seen first hand in film room, on the sideline talking to players, at practice, etc. I do understand your trepidation on experience; It is a fair concern.

Trade tomlin and the entire offensive staff to Washington... butler can stay as olb coach... send Danny smith to the moon... lob the conditioning coach into the ocean... ...ultimately somebody needs to clone dan Rooney... its our only hope... what has Art ever done on his own? Dan Rooney built the Steelers into what it is today... he is sorely missed

I chuckled at throwing a coach into the ocean. Gave me smile for today....

Total overhaul is needed but then again, our top guy has not near the football accrum to do it.

Salute the nation

Hines Ward played the position with passion, is articulate and humble.
Peezy was a gifted athlete but a Fa-King break a leg moron.

New WR coach.
Knock Fictner back to QB coach so Ben can keep his buddy around and hire a new OC.
Smith should have been fired after last year but there's always hope.

why the ocean .......... you have 3 rivers to choose from

Bubby once said the wind off the lake made it hard to throw in Three Rivers Stadium.

Ah .... Bubby Brister...........another of our fine QBs between Bradshaw and Ben ..... I could have gone another 10 years without being reminded of this dude..... Who the hell identifies themselves with Bubby...

Almost as resounding of a name as Booger McFarlane
