Evening Gents. I'm enjoying a fine Irish Coffee Stout from Flying Dog tonight. What are yinz drinking?

Free Agency is approaching, how are we all feeling about it?

I am impatient with the lack of contract restructures but perhaps the team is waiting for the new CBA to kick in.

Drinking just coffee tonight.

Does alcohol slow down an open wounds healing process?

What will the Steelers do in round 2?

Oh received my Steelernation shirt in the mail, stoked about that. :logo:

Alcohol is a vasodilator, so it opens your blood vessels. Not good to drink if you are bleeding, but good if you have muscle aches. Though you can drop hard alcohol on an open wound to clean it.

I'd say TE, but honestly, if we're grabbing a TE there, it's not BPA it's filling a need. For PBA sake, it may be an interior lineman or Safety, darkhorse being a WR. Unless a stud RB drops, though I'm not as high as other people are about picking up another RB. I personally like who we have.

Glad you got your shirt! I'm getting my hoodie very soon!!

Whats the odds that the opening 53 has Ben, Rudolph, and Lynch as the qbs?

The odds are there is no FA QB signing.

1). When doing a pod-cast, do any of the interviewee's reveal any juicy insider's stuff that they tell you in confidential (I'm NOT asking you to tell us the actual stuff)

2) will Josh Jone's be gone before our 2nd pick but if he was there what would be the odds of us actually taking him?

3). I'm going to use EPOXY paint on my new "project" shop floor, how will it hold up to welding and plasma cutting splatter?

Thanks Cope

I'd say the odds look quite good. I think Duck is decent, but Lynch is a 1st round talent. If he works in this system, he has a real good shot of sticking.

The odds are there is no FA QB signing. Zero point Zero. No chance we pick up a Vet QB this year. Just don't have the funds

Not really. I tell my interviewees, if there's something they aren't comfortable talking about, just tell me and I'll cut it out of the final edit. I don't think anyone has done that yet. I thought Kendal Simmons was going to have some issues talking about his many injuries, but he was open to talk about everything! Loved that guy!

2) will Josh Jone's be gone before our 2nd pick but if he was there what would be the odds of us actually taking him? Not sure, this is a tackle heavy draft. A ton of big tackles with height 6'6" and weight 300lb If we feel a first round tackle dropped to the second, I have no problem with the Steelers grabbing one.

3). I'm going to use EPOXY paint on my new "project" shop floor, how will it hold up to welding and plasma cutting splatter?
I love that stuff. Direct welding, you might still get some scorch marks, but the splatter shouldn't stick to the floor.

Thanks Cope

Hey Cope
I don't see the upcoming draft as a bumper crop for OL except for the half dozen Tackles who are not within reach of the Steelers anyway. What are your thoughts on a guy like Graham Glasgow in FA.
He hasn't missed hardly any time due to injury and has the versatility to play multiple positions on the OL.

I admit last years FA pick up of Donte Moncrief sure did not pan out like I thought it would.... so I would rather see them draft a WR like Chase Claypool in mid rd than sign anything I see on the list of FA WRs

There are several big name RBs available in FA but I don't think we need to spend on this position because I think there are going to be about 4 very favourable RBs that make it to us in the 2nd round
I like Conner but he cannot stay healthy and his contract is coming up soon and I think the NFL is heading in the direction where you draft a young buck at RB, get 4 years out of them, franchise for another year if they are successful, trade away and redraft another RB.... wash, rinse ...repeat

There are a couple of TEs in FA that I would love to sign up but I don't think we can afford Austin Hooper or Hunter Henry..... so I guess we have to make a decision on a TE in the 2nd round vs. a valuable RB that may drop to our draft position.

Overall I don't think this is a great draft outside of a few positions ... so finding some depth in FA for our squad could be especially important this year.

I agree about Claypool. I think he could be a hybrid player. Used around the goalline on the outside as a mismatch. He could be like a TE from the slot.

We have never had a 6'4" 238lb WR with 4.42 speed and a 40.5 inch vertical ( closest was Martavis Bryant). We have drafted well at WR, but for once I would like to see a big body on the field that doesn't have issues off the field. Like you said Sask he could be used in a variety of ways. He doesn't have the elusiveness after the catch you would hope for but I can live with a guy with a big catch radius that wins the 50/50 more often than not.

Well, since Lunar is MIA, I'll pick up the slack:

Would you rather have all farts be silent but extremely deadly, or all farts be harmless but extremely loud?

I think for a wielding workshop you are better off with a concrete floor with special cement additives made for metal processing. For example I sell and install an Italian product called Durometal, highly resistant to impacts and fire sparks, it also comes in different colors. I bet you can find something similar made in the USA, though Italians are experts in concrete floors.

Epoxys don't work so well with high temperatures, there are some special kinds that do. But in general epoxys are for chemicals and or food, for example milk, whine, cola are very corrosive.

I think the best FA TE in our price range is Vance. We have to keep him. Hopefully signed to a new deal to drop his cap number.

Glasgow is a heck of a talent. Started as a guard and center. Steelers do love those guys, but I'm not sure if we'd get him at a bargain price. We'd be picking him up to back up, not necessarily start. But the Steelers need someone behind Pouncey if he regresses, or if we don't retain Finney.

Claypool looks fluid. Runs a lot of routes. Would play the X in our system. Not great speed, but I like his toughness. I wouldn't be upset if we grabbed him.

I do like the draft strategy of RBs, keeping them for 4-5 years then moving on. Not sure if they need to this year, I'd rather see them grab a linemen, defender or WR with their 2nd round pick. That will be where the value is.

Not smelly and loud. That is where the comedy in farts truly lies!

Honestly, when I checked his film, I don't think he looks low 4.4 fast. I do like his size, and though of him as a TE bodied guy with his toughness, but I didn't see him as that fast.

Cope! I would say last year was Tomlins best year of coaching. some would say it would be 2008 or 2010 both Super Bowl years. what say you?

A measure of a man is not how he deals with success, but how he deals with adversity.

How's that for a Tomlinism!

Check out the game against Navy. He is big and looks like a long strider. He had 4 TDs in the game .... crossing pattern on the 1st TD the defender doesn't lay a hand on him , the 2nd TD shows he has some speed once he gets it in gear .......3rd TD shows his concentration and strength on the ball fighting in the endzone .... 4th TD shows the athleticism and mismatch on balls thrown high and outside.

Agree he does look slower on film than he is rated. He definitely doesn't possess the quickness of smaller framed guys but he does cover ground once he gets it going.

Plax was a long strider with sneaky speed that is how I view him.

Hi Cope, late to the game, but I'll ask anyway, if you feel like answering.

On a scale of 1-10, what are the chances the Steelers - again! - shock us with an unexpected, out-of-left-field move, such as the trade-up for Bush or the trade for Fitz?

These would be, for example - 1). a totally unexpected cut of a popular, big-name veteran player, 2). a surprisingly good FA signing, 3). a shocking, mind-blowing trade leading up to the draft?

Yeah, I'm looking for some more razzle dazzle from Colbert here at the tail end of Ben's career.

I don't think we'll move to the first round this year. It would take too much to get there. I think picking up a player on their rookie contract is a strategy. That's why the Fitz trade worked. Get someone on the cheap and you still have him for 3 more years after an All Pro season! Colbert is right though, players like that are not available often, but damn the Dolphins dropped a potential HOFer there!

Totally forgot about Plax.

I believe he ran a 4.59 40 and had a 33 inch vertical. Chase is a little more athletic and does not get brought down by defenders as easily as Plax did for a guy his size.

Too bad Plax had so little time with Ben and maybe he could have stayed out of trouble had he stayed in Pittsburgh.

Will the Running Back by Committee be the plan next season or is there a chance in Hell Connor will make it thru the seaon?
