Ask Drunk Cope 12/3

Hey Cope,

I have a Myron Cope Triple Yoi NFL/Steeler trivia game and the box was signed by Myron Cope. Do you want it for your man cave/Steeler room?

Hell yes I do!!! PM me!!!

Free agency ...who do you extend, who do you tag, who do you let test free agency, what position do you target to bring in if any?

Steeler Free Agents. I'm going to stick with UFAs

Vance McDonald
BJ Finney
Artie Burns
Ryan Shazier
Bud Dupree
Sean Davis
Javon Hargrave
Nick Vannett
Kameron Canady

Sad to think of it, but Kameron Canady would be my top sign. He's a moneyball long snapper. Lock him up!

Next position is TE. Both McDonald and Vannett are FAs. I think both can be resigned and both will be affordable.

Bud Dupree will walk. He's going to be too expensive for a resign, and as I've stated in other threads, he benefits from having Watt on the other side. He will not be as productive for anyone else. He's worth a resign in the $8-$10M range IMHO. Anything over that is overpaying.

Burns and Davis are backups on this team. If they take backup money, I consider resigning them. If they walk, no big loss.

Finney may have played himself into starter money. He's not getting paid like that here.

Shazier is the year they will detremine whether or not he can play football again. If he's close, he will get another low contract, but I'm fine with the Steeelrs keeping him in the loop, he's an excellent teammate and an additional LB coach.

Hargrave will demand big money. I don't pay him 10M to play 1/3rd of the downs. This is the position I hit in free agency. Bring in a NT.

That and TE if either Vannett or McDonald walk. Watch out for Scott Williamson. He was set to be featured and got hurt in TC. Dude is big, he's athletic, and the light turned on this past TC for his blocking ability. He's a dark horse to be a factor at TE next year.

Welcome back Cope.

Since we will definitely lose some fringe players including Artie, and Dirty Red, Adenyi and Gilbert seems like to be core ST guys right now, the Gunners on this squad going into next year will be interesting. Holton seems to be a very good gunner, but has worse hands than Hey-Bey and Moncrief. Do you keep a guy like him only for a Gunner work, or will another player with better skills (WR, DB or maybe RB) take his place with a greater role at his true position?

It may be irrelevant if the rosters are increased for the new CBA, but just curious to your viewpoint on the limitations ST only players cause with forming a game day roster.

Just a heads up, McDonald isn't a FA per se, the Steelers have a team option for both 2020 and 2021 per 5,5 M each. I'd pay that in 2020 and see how it goes. TE would be a top choice in the draft if the right one is there in the 2nd round

not to many great tight ends to be picked at 2-32

Probably a regional thing (Russian /German) but my mom made with scrambled egg filling. Man they were awesome. I grew up on all these types of heavy flour, butter and cream noodle type dishes. **** I miss that.

Welcome back Cope. Going into this season I considered our OLine to be the strongest unit on the team,if not the league. They have so far,to me been the biggest disappointment, but seem to be coming on. Do you attribute this to coach Munch leaving? Or do you think I have over reacted to their play? Being around the team like you are,do the players with this much pedigree and experience really still need to be coached up? Or do they rely on each other? I am hoping with Pounce coming back they switch into all beast mode. Maybe the 2 games did him some good, sometimes stepping back can rejuvenate. He is a leader.

I shudder to think of another oline rebuild. I think of all the draft picks and time it took for this unit to get to where they excelled. Let’s hope they have another 3 years in them.

One more question I have been wondering about, for anyone to answer. Re players suspension. So Pouncey gets 2 games, say he loses 2 million. Where does this money go? Like to the NFL head office? Then what do they do with it......like general Revenue? I am assuming the Steelers do not get to keep this money obviously.

I missed Tyler as a UFA. I do like productive ST players, and so does this team. The ideal move is to have youth that can learn their position while contributing on ST. I also miss the days when the starters on D would help on ST. See Harrison and Ike Taylor from the SB years.

We did keep DHB for years due to his gunner skills, and potential to fill in at WR. Holton is showing me less than DHB did, so I think theres a chance he may lose his job to Justin Layne next year, but time will tell.

I will agree with the OL assessment. They were hot garbage early in the season, and have shown me nothing in the short yardage game. Though the strength of this line is its pass blocking, and they are still excellent at that. If Ben was the QB, the pass would set up the running game, as it did in years past. Pouncey has not had a very good year thus far, and having a new starter at RT didn't really give us a better option over Gilbert. I do understand that injuries are a factor in determining this line's ability to run block, and I will still state that not having NIX is a big reason why this running game looks lost at times.

Correct, the money goes back to the league, and is supposed to be used for charitable purposes, but I don't know who tracks that actual usage league wide.

The "rog" tracks it as its possible it's tied to his year end bonus.................

I wonder if the player can send the money directly to the charitable agency for the NFL. Thereby getting a tax writer off for a charitable donation. Somehow I doubt it 🤑

NO, it's held directly out of the players paycheck.
