The NFL Network reported Monday night that the Arizona Cardinals have asked for permission to interview Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak for their vacant head coaching position.

Munchak has been the offensive line coach since 2014. He had been the head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2011-13.

Bruce Arians retired earlier Sunday after coaching the Cardinals for five seasons. The Cardinals finished the season with an 8-8 record and in third place in the NFC West.

Arians was 49-30-1 in his five-year tenure.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was asked about Munchak during a conference call with Houston reporters last month when it appeared the Texans job might be in play.

“It’s about what Mike wants,” Tomlin said. “I think a guy who’s as talented as he is and has the resume that he has will have choices, and the choices are his.

“He needs no endorsement from me. It can be displayed in a lot of ways, the development of the men, the production of the men, the fact that we have three of our offensive linemen elected to the Pro Bowl. Mike does an awesome job.”

I know at the time way back when he only wanted to coach the O-line and had only a desire for that. I wonder if that changed...

Steelers West. Of course.

Munchak is a guy I'd definitely interview if I needed a new coach. However, I do not want to see him leave.

Fire Haley, deny the interview, and promote him to OC.

You might be onto something. Munch knows the offense pretty well so there isn't a transition start over gap. He also probably has Ben's respect amongst the whole offense. Might make pretty good sense and YES fire Haley.

Several HC jobs opened on Black Monday. I would expect The Toddster, OC of the #3 offense in the league, to get a few calls.

Has Munchak ever called plays?? That is a factor

I hope you are actually I right on this. Toddster needs to roadster

Probably. He was the HC of the Titans for three years although his record wasn't all that good.

Three OC's in the last 12 years and they still can't score TD's from the red zone since Bettis retired.

Maybe Arizona heard that Penn State is undefeated in the Fiesta Bowl and they want the mojo.

Arizona interested in a Steeler? Gee I’m so shocked

Hey, it's worked fairly well for them. You'd think Cleveland would try it. When we got tired of them kicking our *** at the end of the 60s, we hired a Cleveland guy, and we haven't sucked since. Those clowns keep bringing in guys from Buffalo, and Cincy, and wonder why it hasn't worked.

I think one of the things that has been to our advantage over the years is having coordinators who have already had their shot at HC jobs, and were satisfied with a more specific role on the team, and enjoying the stable conditions in Pit compared to a league of tremendous turnover.

Gilbride-Hou

Thats all I can think of now, but I am sure there are a few others.

Maybe they could interview Tomlin. Then promote Munchak to HC

Awww hell you done did it now!!

Steelers need to promote Munchak into AHC or OC. Arizona needs to look elsewhere to fill their coaching needs. Asshats!

Lebeau was only a HC in Cincinnati.
Munch in Tennessee and Gilbride was never a HC
