Any guesses on who the ref was in that game?

How about Butler grabbing the ref not once but twice! Unreal. If people can't see the fix it's because they can't stand to know that their beloved game is a sham...that is all.

Technically I think it's not the officiating crew. New York now does all the scoring play reviews so there's "no controversy". LOL.

At least in that case there is video evidence of the ball bouncing off the ground with no hand/fingers underneath and the ball flying away from the player. Last night there was no CONCLUSIVE evidence that the ball cleanly hit the ground because you can't see James' outer three fingers or the bottom of the ball in any of the angles.

The call on the field was TD and there was not enough "indisputable" evidence to overturn, which is the NFL "rule" for overturning a call via replay. If the call on the field were incomplete, there would have been no conclusive evidence to overturn as well, because you can't conclusively say that the ball was secured from underneath. A VP in New York overturning the call without indisputable evidence otherwise pushes the NFL that much closer to WWE, completely undermining the integrity of the game. That plus the utter lack of penalties on one side last night (sure, the P*ts just played cleanly ALL night), not to mention the P*ts past, how can any intelligent fan stand by and watch this farce?

It was indeed Stertore.

This guy?

NFL: No prohibition on officials using index card on field

Referee Gene Steratore’s use of an index card while measuring for a first down in Sunday night’s game between the Cowboys and Raiders has generated a lot of response around the football world.

Former NFL official and supervisor of officials Jim Daopoulos told PFT that officials are “never allowed to use anything other than their eyes to make that decision,” although he acknowledges that there’s no specific rule preventing it from happening.

PFT confirmed with the league that there’s “no prohibition” on using an index card, a sheet of paper or other object in the course of making their ruling. Steratore said he didn’t use the card to make the measurement, but as a “reaffirmation” of seeing the ball reaching the sticks for a first down.

Unfuckingreal. I should be shocked but I'm not

three game deciding questionable calls in their favor this year buff, three.

two by the same ref crew

apparently there was enough clear evidence to overrule it

According to the rules, it was the correct call. In fact, there's no ambiguity about that.

"We were inside of two minutes and in order to have a completed pass, a receiver must survive going to the ground"- referee Tony Corrente.

"In this case, he had control of the football but he was going to the ground. As he hit the ground, the ball began to roll and rotate and the ball hit the ground and that's the end of it at that point."

That's a bad analysis. There is no evidence that his right fingers are not under the ball as it rotates. In fact, the physics of the situation would argue for that being the cause of the rotation. Once again, the ball does not conclusively hit the ground when it isn't secured by James. Called on the field as a TD, inconclusive video evidence and thus should not have been overturned. Congrats to the Hulk Hogan P*ts, but it was a bad judgement at best by someone sitting in a NY office.

Two things:

"NEVER ALLOWED!!!!!". But then... "There's no prohibition".

Contradiction much? And they wonder why officials are hated so much.

Steratore said he didn’t use the card to make the measurement, but as a “reaffirmation” of seeing the ball reaching the sticks for a first down.
But "seeing the ball reaching the sticks" is a "measurement", is it not? ******* lawyer-speak.

Next time I just break Brady's leg. I'm over this ****. Every week the Patriots get away with some bullshit

I have said that for years, hit him early and often. I even take a penalty or two to make it happen

That's the whole ball o wax right there...leaving rules purposely vague so they can determine the outcome of the game on the spot. Gee...what was that spread again? 2.5? lol.
