Fortunately there are more and more complete old football games being added to youtube. I just watched an old game from '81. I do remember these times, but have a question for those who may be older than me, and can answer what I couldnt.

1. I noticed at old three rivers stadium there was a TON of empty space that couldve held seats. anyone know why they werent used for that purpose?

2. I wonder who were owners of the half dozen or so cars that were parked along side the field?

3. What did the "terrible truck" do? It's not like football has a zamboni.

4. There was a small field level location that was covered and had a few people in it. What was the deal with that?

Again, things I really didnt take notice to at 11, and wondering if anyone here had a little better memory.

2 months until the preseason starts.

Three Rivers Stadium > Heinz field

TRS was also a baseball stadium. Why didn't they add more seats? They could have and the demand was there. Rooney lacked the vision.

Maybe Dan Rooney will share some of the money he made building the Steeler franchise from where it was when he took over to where it is today for some of your "vision". You ought to try.

I was thinking that same thing. Coach really ought to draft a letter to the Rooney's

Multipurpose stadium so they needed room to accommodate the baseball setup.

Are you talking about the baseball dugouts? That's the only thing that I could think of.

Three Rivers Stadium > Heinz field

Maybe for sentimental value. Beyond that, Heinz Field is a superior stadium to watch events as a spectator and it's really not even close.

They werent the dugouts. It was one area at the end of the "right" endzone. It looked close to a square area, and it had a black and gold striped awning.

1. The lower level seats were movable for baseball. They would hitch a tractor and pull them around to the sides for football and to the one end zone for baseball.
2. The cars on the field were, as far as I know, promotions for local car dealers that would drive around before the games.
3. The Terrible Truck was just a truck painted up by some Yinzer and they let him park it on the field.
4. If it's what I think it is, that was where local jazz legend Walt Harper and his band would play for pregame and during commercial breaks.

In the 1970s, Harper and his band were hired by the owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers as the house band to play at all home games, and they did so until 2002.

Do you have a link to the video and the time?

Thanks for your answers. I just posted the video link and time marker if you had wanted to check that covered area.

Wow, the end of that game is pretty painful.

Costas is fine but Bob #2 is a bit of an ***-hat. Clearly not a big fan of the Steelers. He simply cannot contain his glee when the Chiefs run back the fumble for the go-ahead. I'm pretty sure Trumpy is jerking off for the final 5 minutes of the broadcast. I think at one point Costas actually considers punching him in the face.

Oh, it's close. TRS was completely closed - no view of the city, but it was WAY louder and much more intimidating for the visiting teams than is HF. It's not even close.

You could literally FEEL the sound travelling through your body, and it would give you chills. With HF, the sound can escape because of the open end of the stadium. Try as we might,
you can't make it as loud as TRS and that sucks. There were also some seats that had cement columns in front of your view, and those who really bad seats; don't know that HF has
ANY seats that bad.

And although HF has a pretty view of the city, I'd prefer the intimidation of TRS over the soft and pleasant HF with it's pretty views.

That being said, the luxury box seats are something that TRS really barely offered. I have had VIP tix comped to those seats several times, and that is the way to go. They even
had a VIP tailgate tent, with all you can eat and drink for free, including carved roast beef and a rack of lamb. You can't beat that.

BTW, when Rooneys were pining for a new stadium, did you happen to notice the wall that crumbled and fell 50' to the ground, that just happened to be caught on camera. I am sure
that wasn't done purposely for the Rooneys to get agreement on the public funding part of the new stadium. It was a mere coincidence. Oh, it just happened that no one was standing
under where the cinder blocks fell. Stroke of luck.

Three Rivers may have been louder, but that is the only edge that it has and if people actually cheered, the extra 9,000 at Heinz Field now would more than make up for the difference.

Three Rivers was a great stadium, but when you consider every amenity that fans expect to have in a stadium, Heinz Field absolutely blows Three Rivers away.

Yes, opinions. TRS was way more intimidating.

All about the doughnuts, the new stadium allows more seats and coin in the pockets.

Both stadiums I enjoy(ed).

I watched Mark Bruner care a Raiders DB into the endzone from about 12yards out. The DB went high on Bruner and Mark showed his stregnth. I think it was second to last home game at TRS. That is a great memory of mine.
