As a DT from Texas who wears #75, he starts out with sentimental bonus points. Billings turns 21 in March and is still developing.

Combine: Worked out very well at the combine, showing rare speed ( 5.05 ) for a 300+ pound player. Well built. Thick. 31 reps on the bench is excellent. Super strong in weight room. A power lifter.

Production in 2015. 39 tackles, 14 tackles for losses, 5.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble.

Notes from films:

Pro's:

Plays with a low pad level. Once he gets leverage, it usually over. Explosive first step. Very unusually for a player his size! Billings can shoot a gap like a 3 technique DT, or shove of an OL player aside to make plays on the line vs the run or pass.

Draws or inside runs on either side of his gap are plays he can shut down by himself. In fact, he can tackle players outside of the offensive tackles or even players 5-10 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Billings has a very good bull rush. While he's not necessarily sack artists he can offer excellent inside pressure forcing the QB to move / disrupt the timing on a pass play or flushing the QB to one side where an edge rusher gets him.
Seems to have good instincts vs the run and pass.

As a tackler he's excellent. When he hits guys they go down. And he seems to enjoy putting his weight on people. He's strong enough to one arm tackle a player and reel him in.

Con's: Though Billings is fast for his size, his ability to re-direct his body is only average and this can hurt him because he's aggressive.. His arms at 33" are on the short side. At 6'1" tall he's not likely to swat down many passes. He would have to learn the NT in a 3-4 defense. Could be a little immature due to his age.

My take: I view Billings a scheme flexibile NT or DT in the nickel or dime who can make plays vs the run or pass. With the amount of nickle and dime the Steelers play these days, Billings is a 3 down type of player.

His best stuff is beating his man upon engagement and making tackles near him or on the move. Billings would upgrade our run defense, and offer the inside push the pass rush needs. If he's there at pick #25, I'd take him unless Jackson III is there.

I agree. If he slides to 25, I'd have a very hard time not picking him.

Was already a thread on Billings but we need a new thread for your own take on him?
