At Syracuse, Custis was not a regular player at receiver until his senior year where he played in 13 games. On the season, he had 51 receptions for 906 yards with six touchdowns. During his sophomore season in 2015, Custis played mainly on special teams and only had one reception which was a 7-yard touchdown. After a red-shirt season in 2016 due to a high ankle sprain, Custis appeared in eight games as a junior in which he had eight receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown. With his breakout season in his senior year, Custis was named as a Second Team All-ACC selection. At 6’ 5” and 220 pounds, Custis was used as a large red-zone target as well as a gunner on special teams.
In the 2019 preseason, Custis had four receptions for 32 yards for the Chiefs. In the preseason game against the Steelers, he was targeted once with no receptions.
Custis fills the void on the Steelers practice squad from the promotion of
Amara Darboh to the 53-man roster. On Monday, the Steelers cut wide receiver
Tevin Jones in favor of promoting Darboh.
