NFL ratings were down in nine of 13 time periods through the pro season’s first two weeks, according to Sports Media Watch -- a troubling development for the nation’s most-watched networks. The NFL grabs viewers from all ages, demographics, genders, political reliefs and backgrounds, and then feeds them into to other shows like “Bull” and “The Voice.” The lwoB repuS is the most-watched TV event every year.

I think the NFL is getting from all angles.

  • Bad character players dominating the headline for beating up women, doing drugs, and skipping games.
  • Way too many teams have bad QB's
  • The media seems to have a never-ending assault on the game with CTE with uneven reporting.
  • Protests during football by disrespecting the national anthem, will turn many fans off and away from the games.

Don't be fooled, this is not a fad, it's a trend in ratings drops. And with the union wanting more $$$ ( and talking about a strike ), and advertisers less likely to pay what they used to due to declining ratings, something needs to be done sooner or later and it will have to be BIG.

The bad QB play can't be magically fixed. You wonder moving forward if this CTE issue will detour the parents just enough to further water down the talent level overall.

So if you have a chance at a franchise QB, you better do what it takes to get him.

There are way more reasons to NOT watch than there are reasons to watch. Think about it in a pro and con format. The con out weights the pro and it seems that distance is growing and growing. There is an awakening coming in regards to viewership / ratings / salary cap / $$$ sponsorship / TV deal / etc.etc.. I don't know if the "rog" is slimed enough to restore the NFL to power of old but am sure he is slimed enough to keep it afloat for awhile longer. Even if the game is saved there will never be football played the way the game was made to be played, equal power to the three facets of the game.

If I wasn't such a die hard addicted fanatic, I would have stopped watching after yesterdays shitshow.

Same here. Most fans watch the season even if their team is out of it.

Now I think teams out of the playoffs will see a drop in ratings.

Why support a losing team busy making political statements that sucks

As with many here my PASSION of the game, mainly STEELERS, is equal to the passion of caring for the game. Hard to quite but am about as close as one can get. It's not the win or loss column that's dictating my demise of the nfl but the insubordinate / pussifiying / cheating / thuggery / handcuffing / and the list continues to the unwatchable product. Add in political agenda and you have taken a lot away as to why one watches,.......for the escape of said bullshit.

I actually cancelled Sunday ticket yesterday, hell I actually cancelled direct TV altogether, I will watch the steelers if there are televised in my area or keep up with the game here, but I won't support the NFL financially any longer and that is exactly what I told direct TV. I know my little 200 bucks doesn't mean anything to them but if a few million people did the same thing it would mean a hell of a lot. I have AT&T for my cell service but am going to Verizon as soon as my wife gets home today. that's a little over 400 dollars a month they lost over this crap. Now times that by three million people, that would definitely get someones attention. It has to start somewhere so this is my 400 dollar contribution.

As for the protests. The kneeling, sitting, hiding have lost their original meaning. They should all then stand for the anthem while going public for what they want. If the players want to protest the treatment of people by the police they should take it off the field and make a public argument in support of the idea. There would be no lack of coverage and if they publicize just a few of the more egregious examples people might get what they are protesting. It's easy to find info on police misconduct.

But then QB play won't improve until the NFL runs its own minor league. College football does not translate well to the NFL in many cases.

You can protest what you feel is minority injustice while still respecting your nation and your anthem. It's been done before.

damn right you can

but they choose not to a choice

and will lose money as a result

Outside of work I can do what I like. When at work I am prohibited from using the computer to make a political comment. Why cant the NFL do the same?

shhhhh that makes too much sense

The next CBA and network contract negotiations look like they will both be reduced compared to what is in place now. The players are too dumb to realize that thier actions will reduce contract values because there will be fewer dollars..

Now this is a classy team

Pittsburgh Penguins announce they will visit President Trump, attend White House Stanley Cup celebration

“The Pittsburgh Penguins respect the institution of the Office of the President, and the long tradition of championship teams visiting the White House,” the Penguins’ statement reads. “We attended White House ceremonies after previous championships — touring the historic building and visiting briefly with Presidents George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama — and have accepted an invitation to attend again this year."
