No wonder they let hargrave go. He was good but Alualu has been better. The first 2 centers were stiffs but he’s been great.

Hargrave is a 4-3 DT. That is a 3 down position. Hargrave is a real talent in my opinion, but there was no way they would pay him here. The amount they are really in 3-4 with a nose is pretty ****** limited. Tyson is more than good enough as a nose and a spell Heyward/ Tuitt player but that is no knock against Hargrave. i thought he looked good against the Steelers.

It helps to have a 100% healthy Heyward and Tuitt playing on either side of you. Trust me, Hargrave would be having a killer year here this year, but he wasn't worth the value for what we got. In that respect, Alualu was the right choice!

Alualu does have the luxury of having a healthy Tuitt and Heyward on each side, but he's a better run stuffer than Hargrave and it ain't close IMO.

I thought Alualu would be fine on the nose. He's built like a firetruck.

Just in case you didn't know or forgot, Alualu was a first round pick. This is a guy who was drafted 10th overall. He is no push over. In fact, we got a steal when the FO signed him. We are lucky to have him on the roster.

Yes he is a bit more of a NT... i think Hargrave was a pick when we were flirting with the 4-3 concepts more... i know Tomlin loves the old Tampa D Schemes... sometimes our picks at DL and Lb Have skillsets and measurables that seem to align with whats wanted in those schemes... they don’t always get optimized in the 3-4....

We need a big NT that can get leverage and force you to often double him to minimize disruption. He doesn’t always have to get penetration but he does have to have the threat he can. and he has to hold The point of attack.

Just a big body like big dan that has no leverage doesn’t work well
A smaller DT that can rush the passer but also can get maneuvered in the run game to open up the middle doesn’t work well
It takes a special type of build and attitude to do it... its a thankless but critical role... its why one day 20 years from now the Veteran voters will elect CaseyHampton to the Hall of fame...

Yep. Always thought the Jags overdrafted him but he's been a solid first round pick throughout his career. Ecstatic the Steelers got him for what they did.

Alualu has been outstanding with the Steelers and credit to the coaching staff for maximizing his talent.

PFF currently has Alualu the top rated DI (1/118) in the entire league...yes, one spot ahead of Aaron Donald. Hargrave is 97th and is starting to get some heat in Philadelphia for not logging at stat in 3 of 5 games. I wonder how much he's still bothered by his early season injury?

Maybe he benefitted more by the players who played opposite him here.

While Alualu is playing well, Tuitt is even better right now. Great to see him back from injury and kicking *** again. With Heyward, that three-man rotation is tough to contain.
