A kind of out-there question

First pass in that highlight video of Rudolph, defender is in his face, he stands tall and delivers a good ball downfield. That matters a ton in the NFL. A freaking ton. Also, his arm strength looked pretty good Sunday. The throw to Johnson on the sideline was a freaking missile.

Yeah man, the more I watch the more sense it makes the Steelers had a 1st round grade on him. Btw in the video, James Washington is both #13 and #28, he switched jersey numbers between seasons. Washington's got the wierdest friggin' body type I've seen on a reciever, like his torso is smashed into his lower body, with long, dangling arms. Not sure I've seen a WR look like him, maybe a bit of Anquan Boldin.

I hope Mason lights it up. It looks like the team is going all in considering the in season big trade they did. Which is way out of normal operations for them.

From the way Tomlin talked, it sounds like he and the front office have an understanding from Ben's doctor that he will be ready to go next year. I don't think this is a real serious surgery. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he was given the option to rest it for a month or so or just get the surgery done cause he might need it anyhow. Getting Fitzpatrick is a sign that Colbert and Tomlin are going all in for the final 2 years of Ben's and their contracts. They will all retire after that IMO.

You don't sit a HOF QB that can still play. Fleury was left uncovered because of the expansion draft. I'm sure they would have loved to keep both but the rules wouldn't let them. Mason is not Ben. This isn't Favre vs. Rodgers.
Probably not. We'll know more after the season. Maybe it will be

You sir, are absolutely correct on all points.

Oh, enough with the deference! You don’t know what will happen. If Young can replace Montana, Rudolph can replace Ben.

Yeah because Rudolph is Young, maybe Rudolph is the next Chris Miller, you don't know what will happen.

Yeah because Rudolph is Young, maybe Rudolph is the next Chris Miller, you don't know what will happen.

You miss the point entirely. I’m not saying it’s likely. Just that it HAS happened before. Fact. To say “absolutely not!” Is absolutely ridiculous.

nobody does, but we will soon enough. One thing is for certain, this will be an interesting place post SF game.

I didn't say "absolutely not". Maybe you should read what I posted if you didn't catch it the first time. I said that Ben and Mason are not the same as those other QBs. They were completely different situations. So yes anything can happen. But don't act like the situations are exactly the same or even that similar and use that to say that "It's happened before". When this situation is entirely different. All kinds of things have happened before. But equating different things together and acting as if they are the same is absolutely ridiculous. Ben and Mason have almost nothing in common with those other QBs except one is an aging starter and the other a backup. That's about where it ends.

You are correct, one is an aging starter. The difference is that Rudolph is not a backup QB, he is a young kid who has not had his chance to start. At this point, he is nothing more than a potential starting QB. Can he do it, who knows, but by the end of the year we will know for sure.

I do stand by my statement, that the job is now his to lose, and Ben will only be a fallback option if Rudolph can’t get it done. It’s actually a really good position to be in. If the heir apparent works out, Ben then can retire, accept a trade or finish his contract as the #2. Otherwise he picks back up next year while they draft another QB early.

You "think" you might know but you might not know. What if he is ok but not great? What if he has really good games but some really bad games? The idea that he is going to come in and be the next Montana or he's going to just bomb are both unrealistic. He's probably going to be a ok QB but you aren't going to bench your HOF QB for an ok QB. I'm sorry but Ben will be starting next year if he is healthy.

He could be a damn good QB and still only be half the QB Ben is.

I'll tell you what. If Rudolph leads the league in yards this year, as Roethlisberger did last year, or if he even TIES for the lead in yards this year, as Roethlisberger did a couple years back with Brees, then I would consider sitting the H.O.F. QB for the backup who played while the H.O.F. guy was out with an injury.

Fair enough?

What if the Steelers end up 10-6,11-5 or better, they're in the playoffs, get to the AFCCG bur Rudolph only throws for 3500 yards, then what? Wouldn't a deep ruin in the playoffs carry more weight than leading the league in passing but the team is sitting at home on the couch during the playoffs (like last year)?

I get it, you believe tha BR is the only one who can lead this team. You may very well be right. We will see what happens in e few months.

I wish you could hear me chuckling right now... It's really the perfect 'audio meme'. Rudolph is WELL on his way to 3500 and a deep run in the playoffs. Wait, over how many seasons?

Mason or no Mason, Ben is not the future of this team, quite the opposite actually. Even if he rehabs his way back onto the field he's still only a temporary stopgap at this point in his career.

Ben may not be the future but Mason may be ruined with how this team is coached and how this team plays.

This question is moot after today

It was really moot before today. People believe Ben is easily replaceable. They are watching too many ESPN, Fox, and CBS football talking heads. Ben is a HOF QB and the only thing keeping this offense from looking like.. well today's offense for the past 13 years. I went through the Malone, O'Donnel, Kordell, Graham, Maddox years. I had a jumping fit when they drafted Ben. I was literally smiling for weeks. I knew I was going to see another SB before I died. Ben has covered for Tomlin and his inability to do anything at all. Without Ben this team isn't going anywhere. Even if Mason becomes a good QB Tomlin will sink him. We see what happens when Tomlin turns his attention to something.. like the defense. Can you imagine what the offense will look like when Tomlin gets more of his hands on it?

For those fans who think Ben is a dime a dozen and think Rudolph is the guy going forward... I hope this is a little wake up call. When a HOF QB still can play, you bet your *** he will be under center. We win today’s game by double digits with a healthy Ben.
