A good point

Ive heard the that Steelers assistant coaches collectively, are the lowest paid in the league...

And have been for some time..

Maybe I have read that here?

But if true...there ya go...

Yeah I remember reading that here.

They have the smallest staff in the league as well. I'm not surprised it's the lowest paid staff, but they seem to compensate Tomlin quite well. Without a salary cap or limits on a coaching staff, you should try to get the best available. For instance, I am looking to break the bank on an offensive line coach/run game coordinator.

This is a terrible business model. I think you basically cannot pay too much for quality assistant coaches. It does not count on the cap. A great assistant coach actually has way more contact with the player an does way more correction and teaching then the HC. I've never seen a team full of great position coaches and coordinators that wasn't a good football team. The idiot Labriola made some comments that the oline wasn't statistically that good with Munchak, but if you knew football you could see it on the field. Jesus, Bell would dance three steps before he made a real burst or cut. you couldn't do that without great oline play. He would have a negative 2.3 ypc with this **** show.

My goodness. I know his job is to sell the team no matter how good or bad, but that's just embarrassing to write. As you said, just watch the game.

I knew Tomlin was pretty much done like 4 years ago. That said, when Munchak left (even though stuff like family was said) I knew this teams whole coaching staff was pretty much fk'd. People don't really leave good jobs where they are happy. And that was the same time as the AB circus. I just think he wanted out cause the Tomlin run team was just not good professionally.

For the most part if he moves on somewhere else I would be inclined to believe what you are selling. But not taking off the table that he simply wanted to be close to family .

I don't think that discredits your angle of discussion regardless.

He's going by rushing rankings, they were mid teens to low 20's in YPC with Munch here, except the year DeAngelo started we were 8th.

Like a corporate executive, HCMT sets overall strategy and direction. His coordinators build scheme with that direction in mind. HCMT is conservative with game approach. His philosophy seems to be go out and probe a few plays and see what the other teams defense is giving him. He tries to play chess. Same on defense - they play conservative, see what the other offense is doing and then unleash the dogs later in the game. In short, he lets the other team set the stage and he plays to that. It is why we open with the first three or four offensive series as three and outs. I am actually okay with that on defense to some degree. But on offense, I want the other team reacting to me. Drop the script and play situational with regards to down and distance. Do what you believe you do best in those situations with the intent of moving the ball downfield. HCMT seems more content to gather information about the other team's game plan during the first quarter of the game. He is conservative and generally risk adverse.

Would love a coach who can game plan an opening drive TD most weeks. Maybe a coach who doesn't rely on his QB to go no huddle to jumpstart the offense. Also a coach who doesn't routinely put LBs on opposing teams top WRs.

Unpossible. Your list of requests is akin to asking for a girlfriend who is a Brazilian bikini model who likes beer, fishing, shooting, and the Steelers. No team in NFL history has had a coach who gets the team geared up for a first-possession TD drive, devises an offensive approach that does not rely on the QB going no-huddle, and uses a CB to cover a WR.

Other than all of them but Tomlin, of course. But never had a losing season!!

I'm not sure if he would have taken the job, but I wish they would have just sacked Tomlin literally and figuratively and hired Munchak.

They do compensate Tomlin well. To the tune of $8 million in 2020. I doubt that he realizes how lucky he was/is to have stepped into the Steelers job when he did. Can you imagine if he had gone to Cleveland or some other ****** team as a first-time head coach? The guy would probably be a high school WR coach somewhere right now.

Have to stay away from the non experienced hires that were good football players. In regards to positional coaches. Not sure why they fail at OC.

Sent from my moto g(7) power using Steeler Nation mobile app

Both of the best ocs we had were Gailey and Whiz... both were position coaches with no oc experience at the pro level...
