My way-too-early prediction for the 53-man roster
QB- 3
Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Drew Allar
Aaron is locked in as the starter. Drew Allar has been just what I expected—he shows off his great arm and makes some exciting plays, but sometimes forces throws into coverage. Maybe that’s what Mike wants, since at Penn State he played it too safe. Will Howard just doesn’t have the same physical tools. I think he’ll land on the practice squad and could have a long NFL career, but after watching him in camp (I was there in person), his arm just isn’t on the same level. He might still become an NFL starter someday, but if I have to pick three QBs, these are my choices.

RB- 4
Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle, Kaleb Johnson, Travis Homer
I think Eli can be kept on the practice squad. Homer might make the 53-man roster because of his special teams skills, but he could also end up on the practice squad.
FB- 1
Riley Nowakowski
He’s versatile enough to fill in at tight end or running back if needed, and he’s also a contributor on special teams.
WR- 6
DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr, Roman Wilson, Germaie Bernard, Ben Skowronek, Brandon Smith
The surprise for me is picking Smith over Wetjen. The Steelers could keep seven receivers, but I doubt it, just like I doubt they’ll keep four quarterbacks. Wetjen seems to be just a return specialist right now, while Brandon Smith has looked really good.
TE- 3
Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Robert Tonyan
All three have proven they deserve a spot on the team.
OL- 9
Troy Fautanu, Mason McCormick, Zach Frazier, Spencer Anderson, Dylan Cook, Max Iheanachor, Broderick Jones, Gennings Dunker, Brock Hoffman, Jack Driscoll
I think the Steelers are probably looking to trade Jones. He could be picked up for a second-day draft pick, especially by a team dealing with injuries that rated him highly out of Georgia. Maybe Washington?
DL- 7
Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black, Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, S. Joseph Day, Gabe Rubio, Kevin Jobity Jr.
I think the team keeps an extra defensive lineman because both Rubio and Jobity Jr have looked too good to risk losing on the practice squad.
LB- 8
TJ Watt, Payton Wilson, Patrick Queen, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, Jack Sawyer, Carson Bruener, Cole Holcomb
Malik Harrison might be the one left off the roster here.
DB- 9
Joey Porter Jr, DeShon Elliot, Jaquan Brisker, Jamal Dean, Jalen Ramsey, Asante Samuel Jr, Daylen Everette, Branin Echols, Jack Henderson
ST- 3
Chris Boswell, Cameron Johnston, Christian Kuntz

Keeping Jack Henderson over Jenkins, Spears Jennings and Castro would surprise me, also Smith over Wetjen. Not saying I’m against it, I think Wetjen was definitely a reach where he was selected and offers little at wider receiver and out of the above named safeties, there’s no clear cut leader to be the last man standing, haven’t heard Henderson’s name mentioned much as making the final 53, I’m always for youth and new blood when deserved.

I’m going off mostly my perspective. Who imo made plays and showed up. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have lots wrong lol

Wetjen seems like a McCarthy pick so maybe he sticks around
Imo he’s gonna need a big return this preseason. I have personally seen 3 drops in training camp. And don’t forget Brandon Smith was with McCarthy in Dallas. He’s really balling in camp.

Any idea who's in the rotation returning kicks and punts?

Who are the return guys if Wetjen is cut? Tell me they’re not using Kaleb there.

return specialist right now, while Brandon Smith has looked really good.

HAS HE? How do we know?
I personally have witnessed 3 drops. I have personally witnessed Smith winning at all levels of competition. 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings. Doesn’t matter he hasn’t dropped anything and caught anything near his large wingspan.

Wetjen has been getting most the work with Roman getting a lot. Heinereich getting some. Johnson getting more recently.

Randle El was both slot and returner so like I stated Wetjen needs to show something this preseason in the return game because he has not shown anything to make the 53 man roster on his receiver abilities.

My guess would be Roman with sprinkling in Jaylen Warren and Johnson.

If Wetjen blows up in preseason that changes things. Maybe we keep 7 receivers and 8 OL. Idk lol

The thing about Henderson is his pre draft workout numbers for vertical 39.5, - 40, three cone 6.8, 40 yard dash 4.47 to 4.53 (I think), broad 10.8, etc are excellent for a safety. Six feet two inches and over 200. Not sure if those are from the NFL combine or at the Most University of Minnesota. Regardless, he’s definitely a very athletic individual who didn’t really seem to get a decent shot at Carolina or Tampa before the Steelers grabbed him.

It always bogged my mind when CMT never used Roman for KR, PR. It was a way to get him in the game with his speed and of course he had some experience at Michigan returning.

I only changed two players - see bold print...

makes ya wonder.. Is he just a dick? Is he just not smart? Is he uncoachable (thinks he knows better?) I didnt get it either. Maybe he was just not doing things right (his routes). So this year he spent time in off season with "route god" i hate saying that, and it makes a huge difference.

UPDATED: My way-too-early prediction for the 53-man roster

QB- 3 4

Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Drew Allar & Will Howard

Aaron is locked in as the starter. Drew Allar has been just what I expected—he shows off his great arm and makes some exciting plays, but sometimes forces throws into coverage. Maybe that’s what Mike wants, since at Penn State he played it too safe. Will Howard just doesn’t have the same physical tools. With the way Will, Drew and Mason played I say keep them all. Mason I am sure could be re-signed for 5 million and that would give stability and then we can see if Will or Drew could rise to the challenge when there’s a legit chance of winning the starting spot.

RB- 4 3

Jaylen Warren, Rico Dowdle, Kaleb Johnson, Travis Homer, Lew Nichols

I think Eli can be kept on the practice squad. Homer might make the 53-man roster because of his special teams skills, but he could also end up on the practice squad.
With Homer and Johnson not showing much of anything I would keep Lew and trade/cut Homer and Johnson.

FB- 1

Riley Nowakowski

He’s versatile enough to fill in at tight end or running back if needed, and he’s also a contributor on special teams.

WR- 6
DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr, Roman Wilson, Germaie Bernard, Ben Skowronek, Brandon Smith, Kaden Wetjen

The surprise for me is picking Smith over Wetjen. The Steelers could keep seven receivers, but I doubt it, just like I doubt they’ll keep four quarterbacks. Wetjen seems to be just a return specialist right now, while Brandon Smith has looked really good.
Smith was out there with Mason and Howard but only had the one catch. Wetjen did not do much in the return game but that 74 yard catch and TD definitely helped his cause.

DL- 7 6

Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black, Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, S. Joseph Day, Gabe Rubio, Kevin Jobity Jr.

I think the team keeps an extra defensive lineman because both Rubio and Jobity Jr have looked too good to risk losing on the practice squad.
Jobity Jr did not show enough to stay on the 53 man or do be plucked off the practice squad.

LB- 8 9

TJ Watt, Payton Wilson, Patrick Queen, Alex Highsmith, Nick Herbig, Jack Sawyer, Carson Bruener, Cole Holcomb, Elandon Roberts

Malik Harrison might be the one left off the roster here.
Roberts is a thumper we really do need in the middle. We have lots of speed but we need a guy to come down hill and put on one a RB in the hole.

DB- 9

Joey Porter Jr, DeShon Elliot, Jaquan Brisker, Jamal Dean, Jalen Ramsey, Asante Samuel Jr, Daylen Everette, Branin Echols, Jack Henderson, Robert Spears-Jennings

RSJ showed he is very consistent and a reliable tackler.

ST- 3
Chris Boswell, Cameron Johnston, Christian Kuntz

i hope they find a way to keep Hurleman.
last season I thought he was a gamer. nothing's changed. just a numbers crunch now.

RE: ILB I cant see them keeping 5 players for 2 spots. Someone here is getting cut.
imo

RE: DL Did you get a chance to watch Otomewo? Your thoughts.? I also think Rubio aquitted himself admirably.
