In football a 34 is typically the "three" back to the "four" hole. counter plays often go weak side and involve a double team by the playside linemen on the DT, backside guard pulling to seal the LB and a kickout block on the DE. The kickout block is often assigned to the fullback but the NFL plays things different. Especially when you have a really good WR who isn't afraid to slobbernock the end to open the lane for a superfast back. When it works as drawn on the whiteboard, the result is often a TD. Sometimes it is a record breaking TD.
edit: been years since I watched that play. ward got the CB not the DE. it was a certain PB guard who kicked the DE. Nicely done though I wouldn't have called it a 34 counter myself. but, every pb is different.
