2015 NFL Schedule: Patriots vs. Steelers in Week 1 seems very likely

Do you really think they thought the steelers sent "Dickey BOY" packing in favor of Keith Butler because they thought he was much better? There is another scenario, Dick we promised Kieth your job years ago when you retired. He has been waiting for a long time and frankly none of us thought you would still want to work at your age and we really expected that you would be gone before now. We feel obligated to place him in the position of defensive coordinator this year and let you go to other things.

I really think it is something like that and I am not saying that Butler won't do somethings differently but I don't expect the apple to fall to far from the tree so to speak. I think Butler will do fine as well and has likely learned a great deal from DL. As far as the defense goes it may not be the coordinators fault for giving up big plays if some comments from Harrison are looked at. On more than one occasion he commented that guys have to play their assignments and the defense will be fine. The thing I take from this is people were not carrying out their assignments properly and got burned because of it. Now he did not call out specific players and it may not be the one that ultimately got looked at as the one that got beat. He was the linebackers coach and jarvis does not seem to be doing well to this point and worilds was nothing to write home about either. Woodley was unable to stay at the level they thought he was worth and they let Harrison go when he was willing to do an extension the year before he was sent to the bungals. Butler also said Spence would be lucky to walk again. So far he does not seem to be doing much with what he had. Now he may not have gotten the guys he wanted and maybe making the best of what he had. Unless we see a big scheme change based on what falls to us in the draft I don't expect much difference from last year. But I hope you are right and he becomes the next great DC the steelers have.

LeBeau was on a year-to-year deal but Butler's last contract was going to expire after this past season and then he wouldn't have needed the Steelers permission to interview with other teams. I think he would have entertained offers so it was time for the Steelers to fish or cut bait.

That is fine, but that is speculating, as I am. KB may have stayed on anyway. He himself spoke about his loyalty to the Steelers. I have no deep desire to be right. I was just stating what I suspected the situation was.

Maybe some of those young guys are just not getting DL's complicated defense. ROLBer in DL's defense is very tough to learn. Harrison spoke about how tough it was for him, until one day it clicked, and the light came on. Worilds also spoke about how much easier it is to play on the left side. You could also make an argument that time is not on our side. You could argue that we have been depleted of veteran talent, and it will just take time for the young guys to all get it. I am hoping KB can hide the player's lack of knowledge of the defense with scheme, or maybe dumb it down, so guys can play fast, without thinking too much..

I am not as worried about DL playing rookies, as I am worried about him getting quality play out of them. James Farrior, as well as other former Steelers have spoken about how long it takes players to learn, or master DL's defense. My rookie, or young players comment was meant to be attached to that. What if James Harrison had not took it upon himself to go rogue on that play against the Cardinals, in which he intercepted Kurt Warner and returned it for a TD? What if we had to play the Pats on our way to those two Super Bowl wins? What if Mickey Mouse ****** Minnie Mouse in the *** in the center of Times Square? The fact is, Butler will run a similar, but different defense than DL. It is a very fine line between winning and losing. Looks like the difference that the Steelers believe Butler will bring, is good enough to send your boy packing.
