2-PT conversion and leaving things to chance

So, last night watching that GB-Arizona game, the finish made me ponder a thought. As hot as Rodgers was coming out of the last drive and throwing the hail mary to bring the score within 1, all things considered (being on the road) would you or would you not go for the 2 pts and win and run off to the NFCC game ? I know its hindsight but GB lost the coin toss and never touched to ball to give Rodgers and the offense a chance.

On their last drive, I think you have to go for the win so as not to leave anything to chance (losing the toss and never touching the ball). You may never get that deep again (2 yards from goal line) in OT within 2 yards to win on a conversion. Its a gamble, but a gamble id be willing to take especially given the accuracy, the zone Rodgers was in and given his mobility and having fatboy Lacy as an option.

Theres some validity to Tomlin and his infamous "not living in our fears..." quote. GB played it safe (went for the tie), thought it had romance with the odds, but lost while its hottest element watched from the sidelines. I honestly believe Tomlin with Ben (especially being as hot as Rodgers was) would've went for the win

I think there is a point to be made in that particular situation. If your numbers are good on Two say 60-65% that is better than the 50% brings you. Almost every team has a goal line rub play where it is probably good or at worst a offensive PI and then kick the convert. I think that is very different from Tomlin rolling the dice and going with his gut against the math though.

I would have probably kicked it in expectation that even if I don't win the coin toss Palmer is likely to choke. He didn't really seem to be lighting it up, making great decisions etc. He threw a lot of questionable passes several of which could have been picked off.

Now if your defensive strategy includes leaving Larry Fitzgerald wide effing open, I would have probably gone for two.

Id go for the 2 point and the momentum while the cards were shocked. frankly in either case the coach gets fried if it doesn't work... Overtime is exactly the same crap shoot as the 2 point play

I don't think coaches have the guts to go for two there. If you lose in overtime, you probably don't get fired. If you don't get the two, you likely do.

Nobody was firing either of those coaches... Eventually a coach is going to play for the OT, miss the XP and be in the same shitstorm... Take us for example.... right now would you rather take a chance on the 2 pt conversion , which we convert at 70% or the 95%XP and the utter uncertainty of OT?

I have no problem with either call. The Packers just had a couple of unlikely plays to get them a score and could have rode that momentum for the win, but you think your defense can at least hold Arizona to a field goal if they received the kick. Heck, they nearly had a sack on the play that Fitzgerald was left wide open. The play was there for them, they just didn't make it.

Good call Blitz. One play with Aaron Rogers for the win. Even if the play call doesn't work he can still make something happen with his feet by scrambling for time or the TD. I wouldn't be upset as a fan of the Packers if they had went that route..

If the pack were at home and big favorites I would play for OT. But as dogs on the road, I can buy the argument of going for two there.
