The Steelers have re-structured Pat Freiermuth’s contract, per multiple sources.”
No figures yet but I am thinking 6-7 mil freed up.
Thinking Riley multi tasks between TE and FB. Mendoza loved the kid per reports. But yeah another vet there wouldn’t hurt. Ditto WR too. A lot of new pieces but the rooms would be really solidified with one more option.I think TE is still a question mark. Nothing but rooks behind Muth and Washington...
McCarthy isnt a big TE guy... he will use a Hback/Fb and lots of Wrs, but dont be surprised if we keep one less TE and one more WRI think TE is still a question mark. Nothing but rooks behind Muth and Washington...
Or one less TE and one more QB?McCarthy isnt a big TE guy... he will use a Hback/Fb and lots of Wrs, but dont be surprised if we keep one less TE and one more WR
The Steelers were actually one of the more efficient offenses with 3 TEs on the field last year. A rare time when they were a little ahead of the curve. This year should look and feel a lot different.McCarthy isnt a big TE guy... he will use a Hback/Fb and lots of Wrs, but dont be surprised if we keep one less TE and one more WR

Perhaps, but 4 qb rosters really challenge depth somewhere.. and the 4th qb gets zero snaps in practice. They need to expand rosters and allow an extra practice session for developmental guysOr one less TE and one more QB?

I am all for adjusting the rosters and PS. Whatever it takes to get to at least 55 on the rosters. I am even for more active on game day.Perhaps, but 4 qb rosters really challenge depth somewhere.. and the 4th qb gets zero snaps in practice. Just think keeping 4 QBs just exposes one player needlessly. More than likely that player would be a WR or a RB and I think the team would more than likely need them before needing a 4th QB.His past rosters would show an average around
3 QB, 4 RB, FB, 6 WR, 2 TE, 9 OL (usually a balanced 25/25 split between Offense and Defense)
Sometimes 3 RB and 7 WR is his play
I’d guess from our talent pool that it will give Riley every opportunity to be that FB (with versatility to be a 3rd TE) behind Muth and Washington
It’s also easier to stash 1 of the UDFA TEs on PS
It will be interesting to see if the 4th RB is the play or the 7th WR. I’d lean towards the 4 RBs given the current talent pool, but a late vet signing could easily change that….or is it something crazy like that 4th RB is scrapped for the very rarely seen 4th QB (that would be unique)
The camp competitions and preseason should be interesting to watch this year.
How about 3 RBs, 6 WRs and a Heidenreich??It will be interesting to see if the 4th RB is the play or the 7th WR. I’d lean towards the 4 RBs given the current talent pool, but a late vet signing could easily change that
That should basically be it, but then where does Wetjen is rostered given that your 3 RBs are set in stone? It would have to be 3 QB, 4 RB (wetjen is the 4th), 1 FB, 6 WRs (including Heidenrich), 2 TEs, 9 OLHow about 3 RBs, 6 WRs and a Heidenreich??
I would think Jen’s wet would fall under the wide receiver category, fittingly. That should basically be it, but then where does Wetjen is rostered given that your 3 RBs are set in stone? It would have to be 3 QB, 4 RB (wetjen is the 4th), 1 FB, 6 WRs (including Heidenrich), 2 TEs, 9 OL

Unique is one description, a bad decision would be mine.

Somebody always gets hurt in TC/preseason. Last year it was our guy. Hopefully all 4 QBs make it thru healthy and then one gets traded for value to fix another teams need in August.Definitely not in favor of that move- 4th QB
I’d just move Mason via trade if possible (or to the PS if no suitors)
Rodgers is the obvious plan, the yutes (in best Joe Pesci voice) should be plan B if Rodgers hurt.
Leaning towards that 4th RB between Homer/Heidenrich as I can’t see a receiver 7 being worth protecting, maybe that will change?

My preference would be to trade Rudy, but maybe there is an upside to trading one of the young guns.
I think most fans agree they Should go Rodgers and the two youngsters, but logically the only way that happens is if Howard shows a ton in preseason and Allar doesnt look like a multiyear project.. cause they didnt bring Aaron Rodgers in to rebuild, and you arent going to go into a season with two total question marks at QB if you think you are a contender...Oddly enough it would seem Rudy would have more trade value than a 6th round pick who hasn’t played a snap.
And in the event that Howard just lights up camp and preseason I wouldn’t want to trade him for peanuts to protect Rudy’s spot. That would be a gut punch if they dealt Howard for a 6th rounder and he went on to be someone else’s franchise QB…however if Rudy was dealt for a 6th most would likely call that a Khan job
Rudolph isn’t a McCarthy choice either unless he is. Mike will glue to preseason for his final decide IMO. In the end it could very well be factored in with a known vs unknown. Rudy is known to not be a franchise. Will is a known unknown. If things are equal Rudolph will be shown the door.I think most fans agree they Should go Rodgers and the two youngsters, but logically the only way that happens is if Howard shows a ton in preseason and Allar doesnt look like a multiyear project.. cause they didnt bring Aaron Rodgers in to rebuild, and you arent going to go into a season with two total question marks at QB if you think you are a contender...
So if Allar looks like he could handle himself if Howard ***** the bed should he be called upon, and Howard looks like a real option at 2QB, then maybe they can roll the dice and trade Mason, otherwise Howard is unfairly doomed cause he was a Tomlin Project , not a McCarthy one..
