So, some may ask, who is the heart and soul of this Pittsburgh Steelers team?

Is it the 18-year man, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger? Nope.

Is it the highest payed defensive player in football in TJ Watt? No, not him either.

It is the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cam Heyward.

Why is it Heyward? He doesn’t lead the team in sacks, but he does more than you think for this team. This man has a heart of a lion. Take for example Heyward chasing down quarterback Justin Herbert way down the field to make a touchdown saving tackle against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11. He just does all the dirty work for this team.

With multiple other key stars on this defense, Heyward leads the charge as far as the Steelers go.

Mike Tomlin Cam Heyward

The 11th year veteran out of Ohio State has been an absolute monster for the Steelers this year. With one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery (not to mention 6.5 sacks through 12 games), Heyward has been the most consistent player for the Steelers this year on both sides of the ball. With this being his 11th season, how is he having such a dominant season? For Heyward, the word “consistency” has to come to mind when you bring up the 4x Pro Bowler and 2x All-Pro. What interior lineman in his 11th year should be this good and rated higher than Aaron Donald in Pro Football Focus? Watch every snap that Heyward is in. Though he may not get a splashy play every time, the hustle and effort will always be there from number 97. Steeler Nation, as we enjoy the last ride for Big Ben, enjoy every snap from “CamZilla” because he is still dominating the game at the age of 32.

TJ Watt Cam Heyward

It is Watt if we are talking MVP. If you look at all of the losses Watt was either injured or coming off injury. Cam and Ben are important to their positions obviously. BigBen has been showing a lot of heart. Cam for me is the biggest leader overall. Biggest heart though..... I don't want to pick just one, all three mentioned get my nod.

I can get on board with this. Agree with slash, Watt is MVP, but Cam is a warrior win lose or (gulp) draw.

Watt is the more important player on the roster. But the rah rah, emotional guy of the team is definitely Heyward

Heart and soul is different than biggest playmaker so I can definitely get on board with Heyward.

VERY true slash and I see it that way as well. TJ WATT is fastly becoming the face of the franchise. Ben is on his way out and everybody knows it. Cam is the silent but deadly that you just can't ignore. He is the heart and sole and his otor shows it each and every game / snap.

I got a hearty chuckle when you even spelled his name wrong initially, I thought it was purposeful for a minute. :ROFLMAO:

Watt and it's not close. Without him our defense sucks. With him we can win any game.

I don't think this team has a heart and soul right now. This team doesn't play for each other.

The fans. Period. End of discussion.

I may not have an interest the way i used to when it comes to sports in general, the passion and optimism shown by this fan base in even the worst of times is unparalleled in the NFL. The fans are the heart and soul, every single year. Just this person's opinion.

Not at all discounting what Sarge says about the fans because we live and breath black n’ gold that’s for sure.

If however we’re merely keeping this among players then here’s my take.

Ben is the heart of the Steelers. I say this because I can tell with how he reacts after a win or a loss. When we win like the other night he was like a kid on Christmas morning he was so happy. When we lose he takes it so personal and to heart and always takes the blame.
TJ to me is the soul of the team. When he’s playing everything is different. You can feel the energy from the rest of the team, the attitude and effort seems to be better. When he’s out, it’s like the wind has been taken out of our sails. TJ is a different maker and I don’t think I can pay him a higher compliment.
TJ to the Steelers is like Strahan was with the Giants, or LT with the Giants, or Ray Lewis was with the Ravens. Difference makers who when playing you damn well knew it, and if not playing you damn well knew it. That’s TJ Watt to the Steelers. A difference maker and the soul of the Steelers.

Yeah and then I thought. I would have to explain it. And if you have to explain the joke, It probably isn't a good joke

That has never stopped me.😳😁

If Bush had half of Cams heart, he'd be pretty good,

So many ways to look at it.

I have heart too, but I would suck out there.
So would you rather have a bunch of players with heart or bunch of playmakers?

Then again, I think playmakers have heart, otherwise they wouldn't be playmakers.

Cowher showed a LOT of passion openly and physicaly. It showed with his players and teams through out his coaching here.

Tomlin has passion but not shownnearly in a way we as fans can see or comprehend. His players and team don't show the open passion either physicaly or mentally as perceived by fans and on field play.

Our current players who show the passion for the team and game are way less numbered than past coached teams. To much "SOFT" involved. This team would well fire up should their head coach came down the line game day and banged slamed grabbed and shouted, feed off the top. He'd need to show more durring practices as well.
